I've noticed a weird sensation through the steering wheel. Only happens when turing right and with a certain amount of lock on. As the wheel is turned, at a certain point, the sensation is similar to the feeling as understeer - but obviously not.

Sorry if the description is a bit wooly!

Any ideas what it could be?

Car is an 2008 XC90

Cheers

Loose wheel (extreme!)
Wheel bearing.
Track rod issue.
Low power steering fluid.

Need a bit more to go on really.

Ball joint? Is there a mechanical clonk/knock noise over bumps?

Thanks guys.

There is a clunk (small) on pull off and coming to a stop. Garage has tried to fix it - but had no joy (lack of interest).

UPDATE

Car has been in to Volvo and repaired (on warranty).

The clunking noise is apparently common on Volvo 4wds. It is something to do with the drive shafts when taking up the strain of drive. Solution apparently involves using something like locktite (spelling?).

The dead spot in the steering much more serious. Needed a new steering pump and rack! Om removal of the old bits, the power steering fluid had loads of metal shavings in it.

Hope that helps anyone else that has similar Volvo problems. smile
