Interesting, is it a case of cheap Chinese tat swamping the market? They didn't exactly have massive premises or a large workforce to keep going, I thought that they used to have quite a good customer base too.

This really saddens me.

Simple, functional but good looking designs which are bloody strong too (rallying)

Almost any car looks better with some Compomotive MO's to be honest.

That's a shame. My now sold Hawk was fitted with Compomotives and I thought that they looked great.

shame - I liked them on my civic. They were very good quality by the way.

As that's a works rally car those are Speedline Montecarlos in Magnesium alloy, same as I had on my old rally rep Integrale. At about £600 a corner (back then, probably a lot more now if you can even get them) you can see why people used Compomotive TH copies at around a quarter of the price.

I'm not knocking Compomotives, I had MO's on a previous car, good quality wheels at a decent price but they did just practically copy Speedline designs (MO's = Speedline Le Mans/Challenge).

Yes, you're spot-on with beard knowledge there! I'd forgotten they were a Speedline product. Still, there's so many out there on 'grales they're probably more common than the proper Speedline items (especially magnesium, not good for long-term use).

They were struggling to fulfil orders for wheels in our championship earlier this year....shame - they're terrific designs, and great quality.

Not massively stronger than any other decent wheel on the market and the vast majority of Comp wheels are very heavy too. Always thought the powder coated finish was a bit stty on them as well.

From memory they operated a factory closure in the summer as well which did their lead times no favours.

They are immensely strong wheels, if you saw the absolute beating they take on rally stages you would know this.

I agree that they are quite heavy, but you won't get a lightweight wheel with anything like the strength of the wheels that Compomotive made. They made wheels for competition use, not for poncing around on the road like you're in some kind of fashion show.

Which is why I'm surprised that they've been struggling. They were the preferred supplier for proper motorsport wheels throughout the world, they wern't the sort of tat you could buy from halfords.
