My Zafira cdti 150 will not fire up after turbo replacement, any ideas?

after a failed regen we had to swap out the turbo, the car then fired up on easy start but smelt really rich and a lot of fumes, now the car will not fire up at all. the car isn't giving any error codes and using a hand held diagnostic isn't given codes either... from what I understand to do a compression test on these Vauxhalls it needs to be off the injectors as there is no adapters, but this could end up costing us hundreds just for that test. (injectors has been tested and they are fine). any one got any ideas what could be going wrong.....

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 24hours to reset the ECU?

Are all the hoses correctly fitted?

yep and still nothing. after replacing turbo the car was firing up with easy start and now nothing. diagnostics doesn't show any more errors, as initial problem is fixed. apparently the injectors are fine. but to do a compression test but at £300 plus we need to try an establish ourselves. according to Vauxhall they wont just do a compression test either. they will do a few hours of fault finding first and at £100 an hour we could easily hit £1k without a result.
worth noting that when the car was firing up, it was almost like pure diesel coming out the exhaust as if it wasn't burning off prop. but spark plugs injectors ect are fine

Not sure why a turbo replacement would cause compression to drop? I'd go back through the turbo replacement and make sure all the connectors and adjustments are ok before doing any expensive diagnostics.

I would be very surprised if it is compression related.

If it was a dumb diesel i would take the injector out and plumb it in to see if you are getting a nice spray

With a techno diesel i haven't a fking clue

A replacement wouldnt. But a turbo failure might. Was wondering if a rod or valve was bent when turbo failed and now that it has been turned over over a few times it may have finally given up.when testing glow plugs we found oil on the tip of plug 4 if there is no oil one 1 2 3 and just on 4 suspect low compression in cylinder 4. (We have replaced number 4)

Ah, I thought you had turbo seal failure, not impellor failure. Was it one big bit that came off, or lots if little bits? I

Good point it was seal failure. Impeller was intact. Would u suggest seal failure wouldnt cause compression loss. What would then cause the fuel not to burn off and now not to fire up?

I'm not sure to ne honest, but I can't see how a seal failure would directly lead to a compression problem so I'd recheck the installation before spending £££

Was it definitely unburnt fuel rather than oil? Was there any oil in the intercooler? Does it turn over faster than usual on the starter?

Def unburnt diesel coming through along with the oil. There was loads of oil in the intercooler. And nope it doesnt turn over any faster.

Oil in the intercooler - on the air side or the water side?

Blocked DPF?

Try disconnecting the exhaust at the turbo and see it it fires up

Either that or id say its hydraulic'd with oil in the chamber, and bent a rod

How bad was the original turbo any compressor blades snapped off ??
And was the intercooler drained also after new turbo fitted as it takes a while to burn of the residual oil if the turbo seals had blown

Dpf is currently disconnected. We flushed through and cleared it out and seems fine but left disconnected while trying to establish why wont fire up.
We did wonder about the rod ect hence the reason to look at the compression test.
The frustrating bit was, it did fire up after turbo replacement. And the next day it wouldnt.

No snapped blades literally car failed to do a regen and the it was just the seal that went on the turbo. Intercooler has been drained twice now. Def nothing in there. . .
