Just for a bit of fun....
I bought my car for 2750 at 115k miles. Original list price was, back in September 2000 was around 45k which means I paid about 6% of the cars original value.
What can beat that?
Less impressive is an average of 36.7p per mile in depreciation.
Compares well with the revenue allowing 45 and 25 ppm for all costs. It barely covers fuel these days... I bought my car for 2750 at 115k miles. Original list price was, back in September 2000 was around 45k which means I paid about 6% of the cars original value.

The best list price I can find for my MG is £18495, although this info is from when the spec was launched in 2003 and my car was 2005.
Anyway assume that figure, I paid £2850 a couple of months ago, the car had done approximately 13500 miles.
Maths is not my strong point but I make that 15.4% of the original value but with a loss of £15645 / 13500 miles = £1.16 depreciation per mile unless I've gone horribly wrong somewhere. Just to add, it was registered January 05 so while of course there will have been money off the list price I reckon it was sold before the massive post-bankruptcy MG Rover bargains. Even with margin for error if I've got the basic maths right it must be at least £1 per mile.

The worst I personally know for depreciation was a mate of mine bought aa nearly new DB9 when it was still a pretty much new model for £104k and sold it after 6 months an just a few thousand miles for 79k....!!!
Thats not too bad.Ferrari 458 purchased for £220k, sold for £180k. An owner of our business bought it. He still does not like talking about it. His wife made him sell it. It was a big issue.

you were robbed, I only paid 2250 for my late 2002 TF 135 Le mans Green with every optional extra (electric pack, sports pack and chrome pack with additional cruise control)and the upgraded head gasket set with 50k miles back in (I think) 2005, mind you it was the week after MG went bust so people couldnt give them away. I moved to Oz four years ago and brought it with me, sold it locally for $19k last year. Anyway assume that figure, I paid £2850 a couple of months ago, the car had done approximately 13500 miles.

I remember a bloke on another forum with a penchant for changing cars posting once he'd done the math and realised he'd lost over £200k in 2 years on depreciation.Think his biggest spanking was a Cayenne Turbo S punted after 6 months
In terms of percentages mine are not very impressive but I was very happy none-the-less by the youngness of the car I got.
S-Type's original bill of sale just over £37,000
1 owner, 3 years old and 18,000 miles I paid just over £10,000 for it from a main dealer with 18 months of warranty on top.
Nowhere near as impressive as a 750 for 1.5% of it's price, but it's a keeper for me anyway.
Sadly (for me, not Jaguar or it's latest buyers) residuals for current models are much, much stronger so that's not an act I'll be repeating any time soon.
