hi all in the past I have purchased cars where the v5 was not present due to a private plate change over, my issue is the car will also need the tax and mot re done with the new reg ( I know the reg) the dvla have issued the new reg and have sent out the v5 etc to the prev owner, however they have not turned up!!. I know I can apply for the v5 with a fee but im not too clear how I then get the tax and the mot updated?
Im not sure at this stage who did the mot. I do not have the green slip either. in the past all has gone smooth but think dvla are overloaded and feel things are long winded and mislaid. thanks for your views
I know could have waited for the docs before buying the cat but that's 6 weeks wait and having done in the past was confident in a smooth transaction lol WRONG lol thank again

The DVLA seem to be even slower than usual just now, possibly something to do with the centralisation and impending closure of local offices. I’ve been waiting on a new V5 coming for 7 weeks now. It’s never their fault, it’s always due to the docs getting lost in the post. Car is now sat with no Tax or a SORN, so no doubt I’ll be getting a fine for that as well.

The website can be hard to navigate, if you call them direct they will advise on the forms you’ll need to download and submit to get the Tax without having the V5. As you said typically they charge around £25 if you can’t supply the green slip (which I don’t have either).

Good Luck
