VW Golf MK4 Strange problem.. PLEASE HELP!!

Hello,

This morning when I was commuting to work, cars' battery warning light came on all of a sudden as I was exiting a roundabout (speed about 20mph) and my steering felt very stiff as i had to use all my power to turn it to safely park it with hazard on.
Also while this was happening, the engine slowly turned off and once i restarted the car everything was back to normal.

This is now the second time it has happened (previously about a month ago) and I'm very confused to what is causing this.

I would take it to the garage but I can't show them what the problem is as its now working just fine.

Please share any similar experiences or way to resolve or what may be causing this.

thank you.. sorry forgot to mention battery was recently replaced so probably the alternator then

Lambda sensor - I'm sure I had this problem with mine years ago.

My money's on an electrical problem. Is the battery fitted properly? May be moving or crushing a cable on turning (etc).

Check also Auxiliary belt...

...basically it's cutting out causing the power steering to fail as the engine is not running: Could also be fuel related (if car re-starts as it should, indicates the battery is holding good power)...

Possible could have stalled which is usually a throttle body fault if its a 1.4 or 1.6

Probably needs cleaning out and values reset
