I'm going to look at a car this weekend that seems to fit all my requirements (model, price, mileage, options etc.) sold by a private seller.

Unfortunately last month my insurer pulled my "drive a car third party" option from my insurance. Apparently they just don't include it any more.

Any suggestions on how I can do a test drive?

Cheers

Tempcover and Insure Daily will sell you a day's insurance (fully comp), to cover things like this. I use this type of cover for test-drives - particularly if it's a private seller - because a) I don't want to risk a vast bill for damage caused should I have an accident, and b) I don't want any question of a potentially unscrupulous seller pursuing me for damage I didn't cause. If selling a car privately, I insist on seeing that the purchaser has comprehensive insurance if he or she wants to drive my car for themselves.
