Latest wheeze to get out of tax, mot etc?
Discussion
So I was down in the big smoke yesterday and noticed in the queue next to me an old City Link Sprinter van (yellow and green paintwork but with the livery removed) Nothing unusual in that you say.
What was unusual was the Romanian (RO) number plate and the fact it was a RHD van.
So it's safe to assume that with it being RHD and an ex UK company's van it was bought over here, why would it have RO number plates? Would it get ignored by ANPR cameras and speed cameras?
Is it a "safe" way to drive around with no tax, MOT, insurance etc as the cameras would not pick it up?
Or am I just a cynical old bugger?

The van (when it was city link) might not have been owned by them, in many cases when a lease deal comes to an end, the lease company might ship them off to other parts of Europe in order to get the best price for them.
So its possible that it could have done its time over here, been shipped off to Eastern Europe and then found it's way back.
Or I assume City Link must be an international company, could have been part of City Link RO during its previous ownership.

My guess is that it's owned by a Romanian working in London, who has found it is probably cheaper to register, tax and insure the car in his home country than to pay in the UK. All perfectly legal, assuming the car is only in the UK for 3 months before leaving the country, if he goes home a few times a year that probably covers it. One of the benefits of the EU and I can't say I blame the chap, if my assumptions above are correct.
I have a friend from the Czech Republic who does the same, and again I cannot blame him! Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
