Obviously it does with something like a Veyron, who's raison d'aitre is to achieve a certain speed or whatever, but in more mortal terms, when choosing to buy a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston, does it really matter?

I think if I was fortunate enough to be buying a car like that, I'd be buying based on how it looked, sounded and felt to drive, probably in that order.

We were discussing this in the office the other day, as someone wa slagging off a DB9 or something for being slower than something else by some marginal amount and it just seemed ludicrous to me. At that level, they're ALL fast, ALL have a high top speed etc.

Does one being 5mph faster or slower make any difference to anyone? If I'm spending upwards of £100k on something, it better bloody look nice. I'd expect performance as a given but surely it's about the brand you identify most with and car you find most appealing?

Interested to see whether outright performance is a genuine consideration for anyone? Maybe I'm getting old and don't care any more...

I'd agree, if I had the money a few seconds here or there are irrelevant, unless you're a 12 year old playing Top Trumps or this chap

having a Barclays over a Porsche.

Precisely the thread that generated this one hehe

Telling people your car can lap the 'ring sub-7 seconds seems the same as telling people that your calculator is capable of doing maths that you can't understand.

When I first started buying fast cars the 0 - 60 time seemed very important, not the sole consideration but a main one. When I reached a Porsche Turbo I found that although it was lightning quick off the line I didn't actually enjoy the car. Went to a Ferrari from there which was slightly slower but a much better car (to me anyway). That broke my obsession with that particular statistic and now I look a lot wider than just performance (although I still want something quick).

It's very easy when shopping for cars like this to get hung up on hundredths of a second but in reality and on real roads it doesn't matter much.
