Would you buy a car or motorbike off of someone who lost their licence using said vehicle.

I was offered a Baleno about 4 years ago after the owner lost his licence drink driving, he even took me for a drive in it. Was all a bit iffy.

So is it just me being prejudiced or would anyone else steer clear of this kind of seller?

Why avoid them?

I don't see the problem.

As above, this is a car purchase. Not marriage!

At least you know they have good reason for the sale, a lot of people sell up just before big bills are likely to occur.

I personally never buy a car until I'm friends with the owner on Facebook, and have been out for dinner with them and their family.

Agreed. Upon arrival I like to make myself comfortable in the current owners lounge while drinking tea and discussing my life todate before heading back out to view the car for a while. Once I've asked a few well prepared question I've previously researched on here I head back home to reconsider all my options.

As long as it wasn't crashed whilst they were in the process of losing their license I don't think I would mind smile

Might even get a couple of quid off!

Wow, just me then. I always got the impression that some of these types drove like idiots and treat their cars like st. Clearly it's just the few I've experienced.

I know...'someone'...cough...who treats their cars and bikes with the same kind of love reserved for new-born children.

But 'he' has also had the odd ban for enjoying the bikes a wee bit too enthusiastically biggrin

And some of the bans have been, let's say, quite onerous...think in terms of giving a lady time to have two separate children...

So 'he' has sold on his cars and bikes, seeing as he would be a window licker for a long time...and the vehicles sold have been lovely, pampered examples.

So, not all licence losers are...well, losers!

I had a car off a licence loser, i got pulled a few times as the high tech police database wasn't updated and they thought i was said banned driver.

Apart from that it was fine, not everyone loses their licence for doing 120 through a playground high on meth and shooting AK47s out of the sunroof...

I bought a car from a guy that lost his licence. It was exactly what he said it was, nothing more, nothing less.

Are you serious?? why the hell would you not buy a car from someone who has lost their license? I don't see how it correlates to the quality of the vehicle in question at all?

Yes I am serious, why would I have posted otherwise? My opinion is based an a fairly small group of experiences however most of these times the owners have fallen into a certain group, irresponsible, slightly reckless (I refer you to my above point regarding being taken for a drive in an uninsured car by someone who had recently received a driving ban for speeding whilst drunk), the car was in a bit of a state, lacking a recent service and having random bolt on "improvements".

I am in no way accusing every driver who has lost their licence of acting in the same way, simply voicing my opinion on the subject.

I was tempted by a Volvo once, but my wife didn't like the guy who was selling it.

He's a local businessman I know. Dodgy but because we live in quite a close community, he tends to play things pretty straight with people he knows.

He got done for drink driving - the second time - and was given a 3 eyar ban. He'd just taken delivery of a very nice new Volvo XC-70. Top of the range, all the gear. Indeed he'd been showing it to me the week before he got stopped.

I was offered it for 20K cash. It was HPI clear and not owned by his company. he jsut had no need for it and clearl had the need of 20K in a hurry.

Fairly sure it was a straight deal. He'd have lost a lot more if he'd try to do me over. By that I mean he is a regular in our vilage pub, a neighbour, good friend of a friend and actually quite a nice caring bloke - he was great with my Dad in his later years.

My wife got a bad feeling about it all. He's a repeat drunk driver and she thought there may be intel on the car's plate which would have resutled in lae night stops by plod and there was always the chance as he played close to the wind that either someone he didn't like might have a go at the car or occupant not knowing it was sold, or worse still Ron and Reg would rock up with some paperwork proving they owned it.

That said, he flogged the Volvo to someone else I know and they were - and still are I think - very happy with it.

It wouldn't worry me in the slightest buying a car off someone who was banned from driving, the only problem is if you bought a entry level poverty spec motorwithout a sunroof as you may need to pug up the roof panel or keep an umbrella on the back seat because of the bullet holes.

I know a guy who gets done on a regular basis and ends up selling his cars and all his cars have been nice cherished examples also their never thrashed examples as he's always to pissed to put his foot down to the floor, the only problem is the wheels are normally kerbed as he has trouble driving in a straight line over 5 mph smile
