I was surprised to see one in Luton of all places about a month ago. It was coming the opposite way and it was easily noticeable that it wasn't a Toyota IQ. Looking by the two orange trophy wives on board their husband had taken the "real" Aston that day!

I've seen a few around here actually but then I don't live that far from the Aston Martin plant at Gaydon!

Likewise, a common sit in Newport Pagnell, unsurprisingly!

I quiet like them tbh. The idea of a supermini with excellent interior trim / lashings of cow really appeals. Why should the barge brigade get all the fun? wink

Me too. It's not the type of car I would buy, but I like the notion of sitting somewhere nice while buzzing around a city.

This one is in the classifieds:

If you had to be in a little whizzy car, surely this is a pleasant place to be?

So do they just give everyone one as a company car, lump it in with the production figures to bring down average CO2 emissions across the range and everyone's happy.

Must say I also like this idea. However, being based on an iQ, the Cygnet misses the mark in my view. Too small, too slow, too cheap and basic a vehicle to begin with.

For a luxury supermini I'd much rather start with a decent base car. Say a Fiesta, with a decently powerful engine (the 180bhp 1.6 turbo from the ST would be ideal). Fit a dual-clutch gearbox too, tuned for refinement over outright shift speed, as a luxury supermini should be as smooth and easy to drive around town as possible. Similarly, the suspension should be set up for a nice smooth ride rather than for sharp handling. Extra sound deadening and, if possible, thicker or double-glazed glass fitted to minimise noise and vibration in the cabin. (All this will weigh a bit, good job we fitted that ST engine!)

Equip it with every possible gadget and luxury feature as standard, along with a high quality audio system, and let Aston do their thing with the interior - leather, wood, posh carpets, polished metal detailing, etc. Keep exterior modifications to a subtle minimum, we don't want it to look blingy or naff.

Ford, give me half a million to develop it and we'll be in business. smile

Love the sound of this... Surely these things would sell? I mean, if you want a small luxury runaround your sort of stuck, that would appeal to so many people.

I like your thinking, reminds me of the old Ford Orion 1600E and Sapphire 2000E models - did they not have the interior work done by Tickford?
