I've always wanted a Renaultsport Twingo since I passed my driving test 3 years ago. Now 21, I'm finally in a position to realistically afford it along with the insurance. However I'm a little confused in regards to the subtle differences between the non-cup and cup chassis cars. Is the difference between the two noticeable and in the real world of imperfect British B-roads which is the better drive?

I've found a nice looking 133 without the cup chassis but would be willing to wait for a cup chassis car if its worth it. I plan to use the car as a normal daily drive to work and the occasional brisk drive on backroads.

So has anyone tried them both or had one of the two for a period of time? I'd be really interested in your input.

Cheers.

(2008+ cars, not the new one)

Realistically on a day to day basis you wouldn't notice a different other than the harsher ride, probably worth going non cup in my experience...

What's that I hear? MX-5 with a lot of change? smile

I found myself in a very similar position around 6 months ago and decided to buy a Suzuki Swift Sport... In the couple of test drives I took in the Renault I found the non-cup version much more comfortable so if it's a Frenchie you've got your heart set on I'd go that way. But, being very biased, you have to take one of the little Suzukis for a spin before hand over your money.

You're 21, get the cup version!

It is a little firm, but the trade off is worth it. If 90% of your driving is town & motorway then avoid either of them and get the Swift. If you go for the Twingo it has to have stripes, the one sat on my drive has them colour coded to be a little different wink

As for the MX5 mentioned above, well I've got one of those as well so can say that there are plenty of times I prefer driving the mental little Twingo and on a tight B road I'm faster in the little French car because it's so easy to drive hard. It does egg you on to go faster though which can be a worry for the points collecting!
