Why does anyone buy a Corsa?
Discussion
Had a bit of a shock this weekend. The in laws are down visiting and I've spent two days driving their car, it has not been a pleasant experience.
It's a 1.4 Corsa, new shaped one, and it is truly AWFUL. It might be the worst car I've ever driven and I've driven (and owned) some pretty shoddy jalopies over the years. The seating is uncomfortable, the steering wooly and slow, its small inside, theres no headroom and it is sooooo slow, I've no idea what the 0-60 time is but I have a feeling if you put more than 2 people in it you wouldn't be able to even reach 60.
Not sure how old the 1.4 unit is or in what vehicle it originated but I've heard diesel units in old Defenders sound more refined. It was so bad that I asked my FIL what was wrong with it it apparently that's how it always sounds and it was serviced last month.
How on earth do Vauxhall sell these things?!
It's not hard, SWMBO has a newish Fiesta and its excellent. How is the Vauxhall so bad?

Seats are too hard.
Car points up slightly, I couldn't see the horizon out the rear view mirror, just the road.
Suspension squeaks after 50k miles.
I was scared to move into the next lane of the motorway because it had no power.
Steering is waaaay too light.
The only reason they sell is because everyone wants to play keep up with the joneses.

A small cheap decent reliable car, yeah cant think why anyone would want that
Because there are better alternatives?Off the top of my head, a Polo or Fiesta at the same price point will be better in almost any measurable way.

Not to mention the Clio, 208, Fabia, Ibiza, Yaris, Panda etc...
Why would you choose a Corsa over any of the above?

Sadly I'm fairly sure a 1.0 Life 'C' will be my first car because it has much lower ins. premiums than anything else I've taken quotes for, still a hateful piece of s
t though.
Try a K11 Micra or Ford Ka, they should be among the cheapest to insure (it is in my case).

We have a 1.4 Corsa automatic. I gave Mrs V. a £30k budget for a car for herself and she chose a Corsa! She really knows nothing about cars, couldn't care less about cars and wants something small and economical. That leaves more money for my toys.

Had a Corsa C 1.0 Club model as my first car, bought it on 80,000 miles from my driving instructors son, was very reliable, only ever needed a coil pack doing, extremely basic with manual windows, no sun roof, cloth and plastic everywhere, plastic doors. Got 50MPG everywhere, really abused the poor little car but it just kept going. Don't think I ever had more than an oil and filter change in the time I had it, drove it 100 miles to Hastings at the NSL and then some, lugged drunk college students around who all seemed to like it. Had the passenger window smashed by
s and my ex's bag stolen in a National Trust car park on boxing day and could never get rid of all of the glass even after a years worth of routine hoovering.
I even (in my EXTREMELY deluded teenage mind) thought that stripping the entire car out would make it faster, I was wrong.
Sold it for £300 less 2 years later with another 20k on the clock. Still going strong now I believe, 3 years after I sold it.
Yes they are rather basic and s
t but I did enjoy owning mine, it got the job done and was dirt cheap to run, which I think is the main appeal. Even contemplated a VXR Corsa D before I got the Saab but the rear visibility is utter cack.

Except its not a decent car at all, it's awful. It would take your point if I hadn't driven Ford equivalent product which is outstanding, looks good, peppy (1.25) engine, airy inside with a great seating position, lots of space (we took one surfing to Newquay 4-up 2 weekends ago) and its also a great drive/steer. I've taken it for a blat down the back roads and it was pretty good fun, just don't tell the wife.
The Corsa is just worse in every respect
