Hi all,

I'm a young apprentice currently learning to drive at 17. I will be 18 in April of 2014 and I really want the new shape (Sixth Gen 2008 onwards) Fiesta.

Before you jump to any conclusions, I am not a spoilt chav, I am not a boy racer and I will be buying the car out of my own pocket from my apprenticeship wages.

I will be looking to get the 3 Door Titanium 1.4 Tdci model, and my question is how much do you reckon I could pick one of these up for? I'd be looking at 50k or less miles. I know you can pick these up for like £6-6.5k at the minute.

I know it's kind of hard to gauge, but I want to know so I can sort of make myself a financial plan for the next few months so that I will be able to afford it.

Thanks in advance!

Kieran

Oh yeah sorry forgot that here in the UK it's the mk7, so any ideas on pricing? Do you reckon I could get one for under 5k in April?

Hmm never really thought about the 1.25 to be honest always heard that it was a bit rubbish on motorways and overtaking, how much do you reckon that'll be?

What i said before.

I have a MK6.5 1.25,it's not fast,i don't expect it to be but it does okay, owned from new.

It's okay on motorways if i pre plan and stay out of the grown ups lane most of the time..smile

Thanks a lot for the info, I'm not into cars that much I just want something that looks nice, is good on fuel and reliable. I'd be keeping it for a good 3 years I'd say!

Any recommended tools to find cars? I'm using Autotrader at the minute I try and steer away from eBay. Autotrader can't even find me any 1.25s for less than 7k haha!

Stick with a TDCi. I owned a mk5.5 1.25 zetec. Was embarassing up hills, and overtaking needed to booked a week in advance. Fuel economy was crap as well, because you're always ragging it to make it move. Could keep up with most cars until about 10mph !!!
That said, it did handle reasonably well, so could be fun occasionally.
At least with the TDCi it will have some mid range get up and go.Just don't expect it to set the road on fire, and you won't be disappointed.Titanium should be fairly well specced as well. Good luck for the future. smile

For a lad of your age have you checked the insurance costs. My daughter is the same age and is struggling to find any quotes for even the crapiest shed for under £2500.

Thanks! 30 mile commute in the morning which isn't THAT much but the diesel means it'll cost me like £20 a week in fuel which is always good! I'm no subwoofer-bearing boy racer either so I should be ok! Thanks for the advice! smile

For a balance I regularly drive my girlfriends '59' plate fiesta 1.25 style (no A/C). To be fair it'll never set the world alight pace wise but its adequate, and she has it sat at 90+ on motorways without issue. She is totally mechanically un-sympathetic and its had nothing go wrong since she got it (new), but she has had new front pads at 28k and a clutch at 33k (I said she wasn't mechanically sympathetic right..) but she has used it to clock up 41k of London traffic...

Could always do what I did when I was 17 (long before PH existed!) and go out and buy a Parkers price guide and plot the depreciation of various different classes of cars (in your case it would be Fiestas). It's a bit sad and it won't be bang on but should give you a reasonable idea wink

Doing that helped me realise what a myth the whole thing about buying an expensive car to have good residuals is. Yes it will be worth more than the cheaper car when it comes to selling it again, but it was also a LOT more to begin with so you've actually lost more money over an equal time period for both cars. Simple when you think about it but it's remarkable how many people don't realise that. Similarly, people don't often take into account the higher resale value of a diesel vs petrol when thinking about how many miles they'd need to cover before making up the initial purchase price difference.

Good luck with it! The last two gens of Fiesta are ace smile

Thanks! I reckon I'd keep the Fiesta for a good 3 years and then weigh up my options then really. I think the price guide thing could work out alright becuase I'm a bit of a maths whizz and all that wink.

Insurethebox I went through confused.com and gocompare. There's a black box but I don't plan on speeding around abandoned industrial estates at 1 in the morning :P

yikes

You consider that a good quote?! Ouch.

OP, how many miles are you doing a year? For a sensible sounding lad like yourself, a classic of some sorts might be a good idea. Cheaper on insurance and something a bit more special than the average 18 year old.

Yes bearing in mind that it'll be my first year of insurance, trust me this is a BLOODY GOOD quote for someone of my age.
