Interesting follow up from Sunday times article few weeks ago...

http://www.driving.co.uk/features/gone-in-90-secon...

Disgusting isn't it. What was wrong with a metal key in a lock!

Trackers are a bit 90's now too

Witte does not share the company’s opinion. “Audi has a problem,” he says. “I have owned six or seven Audis now, but I replaced the RS 4 with a Golf and I would be reluctant to buy another Audi until they come out and say there is a problem and they have fixed it.

Sod you Audi, I'll go buy another car from your group instead hehe

Haven't been in a Golf for years, take it that they're not keyless then?

"Audi refuses to admit that there is a problem, stating that the evidence is “inconclusive”.

Are they blind?

Quite shocking - whilst not having an RS4, i have an Audi susceptible to this and now have a nice silver disklok... Emailed dealer I purchased car from who has point blank refused to even acknowledge emails.

So many things wrong with this, from the manufacturers lack of acceptance and denial. Through to nothing more than slaps on the wrist for the culprits. Sick and tired of it.

It's not the fault of the manufacturer- as fast as the technology improves to prevent theft, the technology improves to enable them to be stolen.

Whilst I appreciate I'm in a minority of 1, my radical solution would be to introduce harsher penalties. When the low life sees that the risk/reward scales are tipped somewhat more than they are now, such instances would quickly be in decline.
By harsh, I mean 10 years in a cell- not decked out like a travel lodge- and a good few years hard labour thrown in.
If violence is involved, a good old fashioned length of rope with a noose fashioned at one end- cheap, and environmentally friendly.

It's outrageous that some of these modern cars can be taken so easily but I have to say, knowing of all the recent thefts, there's no way I would be leaving something so attractive to thieves as a new RS4 parked outside of a garage overnight at home.

My Fiesta is keyless but also has the benefit of nobody wanting to steal a Fiesta.

Would you choose to reduce the residuals on your cars that the public have spent a lot of money on? wink

BMW have played down their 'little problem' along the exact same lines (in both senses) - there's a thread a couple of hundred pages long on this 'little problem' that some BMWs have (2005 to 2012 from memory?) on the BMW forum on here, and the potential vulnerability of Audis was mentioned on there early this year... VWs' potential vulnerability (allegedly along the same lines again) - or information around it at least - was gagged a month or two ago... Draw your own conclusions wink .

Anyway, good of the 'media' to all-but tell us how to do it rofl .

OOPS!!! nuts

How come its just BMW and Audi that's having this issue with keyless entry? pretty much all manufacturers have it as an opition on their cars nowadays. How come fiestas aren't getting stolen by the yoof like back in the 90s?

It's not - part of the reason I sold my Mk2 Focus RS was because of the worrying rate they were disappearing without keys taken (especially here in Essex!). I don't have a garage at the moment (about to change), but without one I wasn't about to leave the car outside in full view and so kept it in my parents' garage!

Given the success that the toerags have had with stealing BMW's to order I am surprised it has taken this long for the Audi's to be targeted. Despite literally hundreds and hundreds of thefts of BMW cars with reprogrammable security systems and ignition BMW have been very successful in denying any responsibility or accepting any blame and this has been an effective strategy for BMW. Customer service is clearly not important.

See http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

for 174 pages of BMW's disappearing and still continuing.

It would seem to me that the vehicle security systems on the affected care are fundamentally inadequate and not fit for purpose. However BMW have obviously found denial an adequate response. I am sorry to say I fear Audi will follow the same route.

Having once driven very esoteric machinery in my early life I regret to say I had a number stolen and I therefore do understand the awful feeling that this leaves with the victim and their family. Since no political party will face the obvious requirement to increase sentencing for the miscreants nor will the car manufactures themselves alter their approach, I can see no reason for any improvement any time soon. Sincere regrets to all the honest hardworking owners of these cars.
