As the title says daily commute, only 4 days, but 100 miles per day. Thnking of last shape fiesta 1.4 but its just a bit bland, i'd prefer something that did 60+mpg.

thanks

I did this sort of commute last year in a Rover 25, Peugeot 206 and Peugeot 307. The 25 was probably the best of the bunch but I did have a soft spot for the 307, bought with 142k on it, got it to 152k half a year later and sold it on complete with knackered clutch, airbox detaching and slight oil leak. It sat on the A1 at a fair old pace day in, day out and the little 90hp 2.0 diesel did was it was supposed to.

I am considering this too (was just about to start a thread on this) the car I want for daily commute is a ford fiesta...but my question having never owned 2 cars is, is it worth it? The other car would be an M3 (e46) or 911 (996).

Definetly worth owning two cars, especially as the Fiesta's tax is only 30, insurance mayde 200? Less then one/two tyres on the toy car.
I've ran a daily and fun car for most of the last 10 years, the last fun car i had, tvr t350 was costing so much to service and didnt really get warm enough to use as intended until over 10 miles.

307 is an interesting shout, i'd been steering away from the french high mile stuff. I'll have a look

Fabia TDi? I like these, and I'm struggling to find a reason to buy something "better". An Elegance will have cruise, nice heated seats and (just) return 60MPG driven gently.

Volvo S60 D5.

45-50mpg and eats miles. Go for pre facelift, winter pack. Honestly they are great for this sort of thing.

Dancat...just spent my lunch break looking at fiestas. The 1.25 petrol is rated at 60mpg but most of the real world stuff I've seen is 45 and 50 at a push. While the diesel 1.8 is rated at 65 but returns 50. It seems the petrol might be the one to go as it will be easier than the D or am I mistaken? rolleyes

Interesting, i had a mk4 1.25 many years ago but never bothered to check mpg. I was hoping the 60+ in the diesel would make it a more realistic alternative.

Anyone actually got 60mpg from a fiesta!?!

DanCat...well I am down to 2 options Fiat Punto 1.9 jtd or Peugeot 106 1.5d...They both seem to return 60mpg if not more (real world, from the research I've seen). Just hope to find one which isn't on its last legs!
