I'm sure there have been loads of threads on this before butI am looking for a fun runaround to stick a mountain bike and kayak on and day trips to the mountains in the winter (100km or so). There are also loads of roads round here that when I'm driving them I just think "I must get round to having something fun".

Occasionally I go off kayaking a bit further away. Does anyone know what the RS200 is like on the motorway in terms of fast cruise noise levels?

Have also been thinking about an Elise 111s and Mini Cooper S and not sure what to go for.

Running costs are not a huge issue, but low maintenance is always nice.

Mine was fine, the exhaust isn't noisey at all really, and it's 6 speed so no excessive rpm at cruising speed

I had a CUP, and it was rock hard - bare that in mind

MINI Cooper S sits around 3k at 80mph (on the track)

I must be getting old smile

I've currently got a 200 Cup and find the exhaust noise a little tiresome after a while. Your best bet is, if possible, to drive one for about ten miles at 70mph.

ETA; You feel EVERY bump!

I've done ~32,000 miles in my Clio RS200 Cup over the last 3 years. The majority of these miles have been spent commuting on the M25. Boring I know!

It is never going to be a comfortable mile muncher, but if you don't mind a bit of noise then I'd say go for it. I've also had the center silencer delete on mine so it is louder than normal.

If you are planning on doing a lot of miles though I would advise against the recaros. My back side was very numb after doing 120mls a day in them!

Great cars though, and they are perfect for B road bashing or taking part in any PH runs. To me the noise and numb backside is worth it for how rewarding they are to drive at 10/10ths.

Mine is going next week and whatever replaces it has a tough job to follow.

Thanks a lot, really helpful.

Thing is, I only do about 500km a month anyway at the moment and doesn't look likely to increase (except in ski season) I run my business from home and all my clients are within 50km of me and most of stuff is done by phone so I think I would get the recaros just because they look awesome. Mainly I'm just popping into town for a jolly or driving up the hill to go biking.

I will go and test drive one I think and have a go with it but based on what everyone says, it's what I thought. They look amazingly fun to thrash.

My full fat 200 was fairly noisy on the motorway. 70 had a bit of a drone but strangely 75 wasn't as bad. They are not motorway cruisers, the gearing and the engine are just not suited to it. My opinion of course, but have a lengthy test drive and form your own opinion.

How would you get a mountain bike or kayak on an Elise?
