We had someone pop over today on business; worth many millions yet drives an old E46 320i cab; I've seen similar with other very wealthy folk and it's often that same model of car.

There's the old Volvo estate brigade too and I see a fair few in very old Merc estates.

Interesting when so many but a car for its image, to see many properly well off folk in old barges. Very eccentric and damn cool!

They have nothing to prove and are comfortable with who they are.

Whilst not rich as such, however they were very comfortably off; a family that I babysat for when I was a teenager alway had old cars, as far as they were concerned a car was a tool for getting the kids to school and for going from A-B, as long as it was reliable then they saw no point in paying over the odds for it.

Volvo 240 GLE Estate. Probably with about 300k miles on clock and have had it for 20+ years.
Perfect dog vehicle.

Possibly a 740 if they were feeling a little flush at the time.

I just went to check your profile to see if you were hinting at being disgustingly rich. Anyway, if that's you in the pic, I'd like to take this moment to mention I have severe mental health issues.

Just putting it out there...

Family friend owned million+ pounds worth of classic Ferrars and such like. Yet he Drove EVERYWHERE in a Peugeot 205 diesel! Even to the classic car races he visited.

Were you hoping to announce how rich you are AND you drive expensive cars by any chance?

Doesn't the founder/owner of IKEA run around in an old 240 or something despite being worth a fair whack?

There's truth in it though.

Local landowner and Peer in my home village drives a Nissan Micra.

People own nice cars for two principle reasons - they like cars, or they like ostentatious displays of wealth. Or both. If neither apply, why would they buy anything better?

isn't there a saying along the lines of:
