Road trip planning help (europe)
Discussion
Planning a road trip in three weeks time across europe. Two cars and 4 lads going. Got a few places in mind that I would mind seeing but just looking for any input from folk who have done similar, just as to anything worth seeing, or roads worth driving on the route. We are going for two weeks and getting the ferry from newcastle to amsterdam (did want to come back on a norwegien ferry but it appears they dont run anymore!).
Have done a lot of bovaria and austria before but never east germany or that direction.
Heres the proposed route
With overnighters in:
amsterdam
the ring
prague
berlin

Just to add to this guys, this is not my first road trip to the continent, the ring or germany, or my first time on the ferry. Just my first time on this route and looking for anything decent that might be on it, roads or sights or decent bars haha.

Go visit Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, south east Germany, a little over the boarder to Austria, you can do it without buying the vignette if you have a map/gps.
Pretty garbled post. The Gross Glockner now charges an eye-watering E33 for a car for the day.
That's enough for me to not bother anymore.
Austrian Vignette only required if you use their motorways.
Unlike the Swiss, a ten day version is available for tourists.
Like i said the plan was originally to go to norway or denmark for the return ferry, but it appears that the Norway one no longer runs, and I cba with driving through englandshire from harwich back to scotland.
I think by that point my mind and body may be broken and ready for home anyway!

Overnight in Amsterdam- be prepared for iffy parking at 40 euros a night. It's also even more b
ks to drive around the city centre than usual at the moment as most of it seems to be dug up.
Or you could park at the Olympic Stadium for 8 euros and get a tram in- it's as secure as anywhere and the public transport is included.

Unsure what you mean regarding the mods.
As mentioned dont really want to go further south, as did a tour of bovaria/austria with the CSL homecoming tour earlier in the year.

I would make sure I stopped in Belgium. Either for Spa Francorchamps, Zolder or copious amounts of Belgian beer in Ghent, Leuven or Antwerp

Also, it's a 10 minute detour off the ferry to go to Circuit Zandvoort. Very interesting track and they had an open track day when we were there last (30 euros for 20 minutes or something).
Tip for the ferry: The beer is bloody expensive and they won't give you a pint (500ml b
ks!). Either buy some beer to take on the ferry with you, or buy from the shop (they usually have good deals), and take a bag of ice aboard.ETA: I'm pretty sure I've driven that road from the ring to the ferry and I don't remember anything interesting other than Schumacher's karting: http://www.ms-kartcenter.de/en/home.html . Either do that, or drive through Belgium and stop at Spa - if there's a track day/race on they'll normally let you watch for free. Ferry should get in at ~10am so you'll have plenty of time to fanny about before getting to the 'ring.
Afraid I'm no use with anywhere East of the ring!

Zanvoort looks like a good shout, even if its to nip out for a look.
Doing 2/3 days in amsterdam before we head to the ring for a sat evening run and a full day sunday.
Zandvoort trackday dates here to tempt you http://www.vrijrijden.nl/en/Doing 2/3 days in amsterdam before we head to the ring for a sat evening run and a full day sunday.

But yes, go and have a look, it's a pretty accessible circuit and they'll likely have something on if it's a weekend.

Would like a circuit with a decent bit of run off for some sideeways action in the CSL. My local knockhill isnt the easiest for it and the rinf is hardly the place.
There are a lot of sweeping bends at Zandvoort, the flow is incredible. Sometimes there's not much in terms of run off, but it's a track where you can choose your hooligan moments. It didn't stop a chap in a M5 shredding most of his rear tyres in front of us at every corner though
Spa is your best bet for large amount of run off. The final chicane and La Source are good for some low speed powerslides as well. But you'll need to plan around a dedicated track day and expect to spend £250+.
I've never driven Zolder so can't comment on it as a track. They were quite accommodating when we showed up in the middle of a motorbike race though.
I wouldn't consider anything above 75% at the 'Ring if it's your first time. Instead focus on the spectacle, experience and the motors on display. Do your research beforehand, particularly read some stuff about savethering.org and try to go to the local venues rather than the Nurburgring restaurants.
