Liverpool are proposing to do away with bus lanes. as the penny seems to have dropped that they not only cause congestion, but are potentially dangerous. Predictably there are howls of protest from the Green party and cabbies. Initially it will be a 9 month trial.

The council are due to vote on it next week.

Can't see it happening in London.
Too many buses. Add them to normal traffic and the place would just stop.
And it wouldn't be any safer/less dangerous than it is now.

They need to get them off the road to completely ease congestion, what they need is a monorail.

Yes but every other city in the UK is nothing like London. Outside of London I can honestly say that I've not seen a bus lane (unless specifically made as a new bit of road for the bus) that doesn't cause more congestion (as buses get stuck in snarled up traffic) that don't seem to have been created purely out of spite for car drivers. Awful, hateful things, up there with speed bumps as things dreamed up by car hating, carrot munching fktards.

They congest the roads and the reason is simple they stop and have to collect the fares as well. It's ok if people have passes but anything else and they either have to pay the driver or queue to use a ticket punch/validator. "one Man operated" never was going to work well on busy roads.

Theres probably a better one on there but Fox are so tough on getting clips removed from YT that only reversed image (like that) or shakey phone cams of a TV screen seem to be allowed.

I did have a particularly quick and easy commute in this morning to lpool city centre. But...
1) it's half term
2) I was fairly early
3) nobody was using the bus lanes except busses biggrin
