Another what car...
Discussion
Well, maybe this isnt a simple 'what car', because i don't think there's anything out there that meets the criteria.
Basically, I'd love an E91 330d/335d with iDrive(nav) and Xenons. I dont fancy the saloon and would only take M Sport trim, with an autobox.
Im looking for a diesel estate, lots and lots of goodies. The obstruction for the BMW is price when coupled with the rest of the critera:
Fast(ish) - I know there's not many diesels out there as fast as a 330/335 while still being economical.
Economical - 40+mpg
Lots of toys - Xenons, Nav, etc.
Less than 60,000 miles
Less than 5 years old.
£14k or less.
All I can really think of is the Skoda superb. The A4 diesels have woeful power output (0-60 in 10 seconds on the 1.9d). The Octavia VRS is a strong consideration but is very ugly at the front. Only the brand new one looks good but the price is too high. Passat is a maybe but it doesnt look very interesting (or as interesting as a diesel estate can be). C-class, XF sportbrake and 5 Series seem out of the price bracket too. Mondeo and Insignia are ugly. V70 is a strong contender, but they look very very big, and maybe a bit boring? Prehaps the D5 would feel better, seeing as the 2.0d gets to 60 in about 8 years.
Any other notable suggestions, or am i best saving for that 330/335?
I dont 'need' an estate, but i just prefer them over saloons. Small hatches and convertibles are a no-no. The only other, absolute last ditch option, is to just f
k economy off, get rid of the idea of a cosy estate, and go and buy a VXR8, before watching my wallet bleed dry at the local BP.

Shame it has to be an estate as there are some very nice Lexus IS220D SE-L's out there at that money.

I would suggest a previous-gen Mercedes E-class estate. A 5-year old example will be the facelift version that had all of the issues with the previous model sorted. I think that 14K will get you a very decent Avantgarde version with leather and all the toys. And it will have rear wheel drive, which the Skoda will not.
