God I hate driving in Belgium
Discussion
Just finished driving from Sussex to southwest Germany-ish... Not a bad journey, 6 hours pretty much door to door. But.... God, I hate Belgium. From the tunnel you head towards Lille, and then after that as soon as you cross into Belgium is the s
ttiest bit of overgrown, potholed, crap motorway I've seen in my life. And the service stations, they're not worth stopping at since about the only thing they seem to provide is more potholes. Some rusty stuff, and the smell of wee. And the driving is terrible, tailgating, pulling out very late, just generally being a t
t, etc.
Today I just decided not to stop in Belgium, and whilst it was a long drive from alias straight through to Luxembourg, it was totally worth it. I will be glad when I never have to return there. Sadly I'm going back tomorrow.
Oh yeah, I also saw a Luxembourg registered 'cayenne gt3'

The pot holes are the result of years of being stitched up by their French neighbours charging everyone a fortune to use French motorways especially commercial traffic. So a lot of it goes through Belgium instead thereby knackering the road surfaces. As you'd have seen there's actually loads of roadworks trying to fix the issues.Other than that those motorways have always been some of the best in Europe for high speed running especially at night when there's not much traffic with the long straights and lighting.I actually used that route again a few weeks ago for a run to Austria via Trier outbound and Aachen on the way back after some years of usually going through France to Strasbourg to get to Germany.French traffic levels are now increasing along with the risk of being nicked while paying a fortune for the privelege in tolls. When the roadworks are done that night run through Belgium to Germany will be as good as ever probably.
Not noticed the driving being particularly bad but that rough, concrete, pock marked, pothole ridden pile of s
t they call a motorway network is most definitely awful - you can literally tell when you enter France, Luxembourg, Holland or Germany as the car suddenly goes eerily quiet as the road surface suddenly changes.

There's a reason Belgium has been trashed in the last two world wars: it's not much use for anything else.
I would never have believed that a country could be so dull, and it's probably what keeps the Harwich - Hook ferry on business.
Why their driving is so awful I will never know, but they're amongst the rudest and least pleasant drivers in Europe, IMO
I do actually work with a Belgian woman, and she's miserable and rude too. So that about wraps it for Belgium.

In Brussels, where you get junctions with left turns, they have this ability of creating a second and sometimes a third parallel lane waiting to do the left turn, when you get a gap in the on-coming traffic it makes a funnel effect as two or three swing left and try to get in to a single lane. You would not get away with that for right turns here!

Apart from the comically bad road surface, my other overwhelming impression of Belgium's motorway network was disbelief as when it starting pissing down heavily and we slowed to 60-65 owing to spray there were plenty of jokers going past well in excess of 90.

Belgian drivers are properly awful. On the only two occasions I have interacted with Belgians, I have wanted to beat both of them to death. These are two tiny events, and I am sure, many belgians are lovely, friendly people.
But they cannot drive for s
t, and their roads are absolutely horrid.
