I'm pottering about in a lovely Honda Accord that's been nothing but reliable, and will continue through the winter. Come Spring I will be chopping it as the itch for a sportier car comes in.

Been weighing up a private purchase on all sorts of roadsters, Caymans, 370s... all that biz. Had a quick google of lease deals and am seeing a lot of £250ish monthly deals for the new SLK. Any reason for this?

I know it's a touch hairdresser and a diesel is sacrilege but 200bhp and 40(s)mpg with the roof down might just fit my life perfectly right now.

So has anyone got one? Any other good pointers on leasing? Doesn't have to be this - C class coupe and that sort of thing could be a goer, or something left-wing!

Cheers.

Merc seem to permanently pump money into lease/PCP deals on these, I guess they need good 3 year old used stock.

Fair enough... they seem v competitive vs the other German marques etc.

Really like my c250 coupe (in fact I'm getting other one next week), the engine is perfect for a daily driver as its good on fuel and still goes fairly well. Bet the slk with this engine is also a nice car (OK not as sporty as some but for an everyday car a nice place to sit)

There is a good thread on the Merc section.

I ordered one twice but delays on delivery due to demand meant I pulled. I think they are incredible value.

I saw a lot of these deals when looking around ( at the £250) but the miles were limited and gave you no opportunity for some essential options without paying a lot more for either.

Most deals are £250-300 inc VAT for 10k/year
15k/yr costs +£40/month
airscarf and heated seats +£25/month
But to be honest the base spec AMG Sport is good enough on it's own without extra options.
I'm averaging 50mpg in mine so far.

I've got one and it's excellent.

It's not the mythical £250/month job, mines a C250CDi AMG sport thing which is on a 3+23 deal on 15K/pa. I pay £420/month ish. (The cheap deals you see are for the base model, probably with six months up front and 6K/pa).

My average is 47 mpg but on my drive to work (Rossendale to Leeds) I get 62+mpg going and about 55 coming back. My record is 68.8mpg and I might have a crack at 70mpg. 204bhp, 500nM of torque (this is LOTS), 151mph top speed, 0-62 in 6.7s. I don't think anyone except the haters can moan about those stats. The only disadvantage is the noise.

No matter what people say about the old SLKs these new ones (R172) really do handle; we've spent the weekend bombing around the Settle/Kirby Lonsdale etc area and it's been excellent, pots of grip, great huge gobs of torque shoving you up steep, twisty bits, no scuttle shake at all. Ride is a bit firm for urban potholes, mind. Handles miles better than my previous ABC equipped SL500.

It's got most stuff I want with just the base + AMG, I added my own Becker Map Pilot module (£200 brand new from Germany on Ebay). I wouldn't spec any options either; you simply pay the entire cost of the option over the period of the lease.

Mine was through Freedom Contracts but they simply handed me over to Mercedes Finance and it's a Mercedes "Agility" scheme car. I'll definitely be having another if the payments are similar - for me it's hassle free motoring (which I need after the nightmare of my SL), I intend to start the ball rolling about 3 months before the contract is up, especially because I like it so much I'll have another and I want a red one.

TBH I don't understand why anyone would pay cash for a new one - I'm sure that you'd lose more in depreciation than I'm paying - or not far off.

Hope that helps.

I've got one. Had it a year now. £312 per month on a 6 + 23 deal. AMG sport with some decent options. A great car. Absolutely flies along in sport mode. Good kit level. Very firm ride. Standard Hifi is great. Exceptional economy. Uncomfy after two hours in the saddle but I am powerfully built.

Brilliant thanks all. Is amg sport just a better trim level?

No. There's different side skirts and bumpers, bigger AMG wheels (which kerb at the slightest breath (mine was delivered while I was working abroad and was delivered home and stuck in the garage. i reversed it out of the garage and scraped it on the lawn edging. No matter. They're all kerbed now frown (note: up til this car I'd never kerbed a wheel in my life))).

Suspension is different too, and 10mm lower.

Go for the AMG.

Interior is very class - mine's a very nice black leather, red stitching and seatbelts. Standard audio system is good, has bluetooth, USB and you can play your choons by Bluetooth too (including Spotify on your phone). There's a little receptacle in the glove box for which you can buy a Becker Map Pilot which gives you a full-blown, very good, voice activated sat nav. I've just updated mine so it includes European "danger spots" wink and comes up with other gubbins such as hazards. Does very good jam avoidance and rerouting.

Brilliant car.

A few months ago the base model without a choice of colour was knocking about for sub £200/month (on 6k miles a year). If you want the very best lease deals, don't be fussed about trim or colour, just take what they've got.

3+23 deal for the basic AMG 250CDI (15k) can be had for £379 from Freedom Contracts. Others deals include:

  • 3+23 (10k) £333.59
  • 6+23 (10k) £298.79
  • 6+23 (15k) £340.79
There will be cheaper deals too, I just find Freedom the easiest to deal with.

The £250/month deal is far from mythical, I have a friend who got one for £650 down and £109/month (10k miles and 12 month deal) for one on the MB VIP scheme, my mate is not a VIP, he simply works for a professional sports team.

Christ I think I might chop the Honda now and go for the merc! Bit worried about it in winter with all the amg gubbins like big wheels - don't want to completely ruin it when it sits so low on big wheels.

Also I'm 6ft4... Assume it's capable for tall people being a two seater?

Anyone want an Accord lol

looks like they've still got the C63 AMG estate on a 6+23 for £555. I still can't believe that!

20 week wait though.
