Hi there,

1.2 8v clio campus here. After it being sat on my driveway not being used for 2 weeks when i started driving it after about 20 minutes the ABS and SERV light came on together and have been on and off since. Is there anything simple that i can do to seen if it helps before paying for diagnostics???

Also i had new discs and pads put on the car about 6 weeks ago could this have affected anything and if it has could the garage be held liable for the repair?? Thanks

ABS light, simple things first, try cleaning the sensors.

Make sure that your battery is fully charged; what used to work for me on the Audi was disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes or so - this allows the system to 'reset' and can help clear any codes that are stored.

How can i test if its fully charged? It charged instantly after id left it for 2 weeks so surely its ok?

You can't test the battery unless you have the equipment - however if it turns the car over briskly when cold and doesn't run-down when left over a few days it's probably fine. However, if it's more than about 5 years old it's probably worth getting a garage to test it, or just change it - a battery's performance does reduce over time. Modern cars are very susceptible to variations in battery voltage.

Chances are there will either be a cracked or dirty abs ring or a dirty sensor/split wire.

I have a clio 172 and have had this twice now, once for each issue.

Usually cheap to fix?

IIRC ABS rings for a Clio are circa £10 each on e-Bay.

Wheels off, take sensor out clean and refit. Cost zero and it may work.
