Hi everyone,

The mrs has been looking for a new car for a while now, and we’ve been unable to find something that ticks the boxes, and I thought i’d throw it out there to see if there were any gems/wildcards that we have overlooked.

She currently has a 51 plate beetle ( i know) 1.8t. Shes looking to spend a total of 6k on a new vehicle. She wants something newer, that’s still nippy, yet ok on fuel (35mpg+). She has recently started a new job in Manchester and has been getting the train, but wants to retain the option of driving (20 miles) down the motorway.

Cheers in advance.

Perhaps stick with VW and go for an early Golf MkV GTI. Seems to fit the bill.

What are her criteria? You say nothing yet "ticks all the boxes" - what are the boxes that need ticking?

Looking back, i see that I did mention the boxes that need ticking:

1. 6k on a new vehicle.
2. She wants something newer
3. that’s still nippy
4. yet ok on fuel (35mpg+).
5.She has recently started a new job in Manchester and has been getting the train, but wants to retain the option of driving (20 miles) down the motorway.

in addition to this, I just remembered that she isnt a fan of RWD due to her watching me "attempt" to move my merc in the snow last winter. oh and looks decent and has decent(ish) spec..

That's a pretty open spec. Possibilities are endless:
Agreed.

Might help if we understand why exactly a 51 plate beetle ( i know) 1.8t no longer up to this task.

Based on the non-specific criteria then Hyundai i10 will tick the boxes. Costs buttons to run, goes up and down a motorway just fine, cheap to buy and still under warranty.
