Suppose you could pick up a brand new car, and drive it from Lands End to John O'Groats all expenses paid.
You could choose any year in the 20th century to do this is, road and traffic conditions would be typical for that year and the car would be a current model for that year.
What year and car would you choose?
I'd be tempted by an E type Jaguar in the early sixties.

My dream drive is approximately 1.3 miles long. It contains a long straight but also lots of corners which duplicate corners from famous race circuits. It is all tarmac but with an optional gravel section, which is entered by turning left on corner 17 rather than right. Invisible to the passing public/ plod so maybe a fold down hedge on side of public road. And has a pub just before the end of it so you can attempt it pissed without going on a public road.
A 6.3 Vantage from the mid 80's for me please.

I like it, but did you even read the OP?

Got to be a Scotland - Algarve rural road trip and in 1970.
I've given this a lot of thought. Countach LP400S comes to mind, early 80s Vantage, the odd massive Bentley or agile Bugatti pre-wars.
But then, one likes to have some creature comfort and the 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione just has it all.

But I would hardly be alive when arriving at London, would I?
