Let's assume that I'm a very lucky guy and am taking my driving test in my new Porsche 991 GT3 which comes as standard with a PDK gearbox. No clutch, flappy paddles but can be driven in auto mode.
If I pass the test do I get a licence covering just automatic transmission cars , automatic and flappy paddles or all types of transmission including manual ?

why are you taking the test in the Porsche, wouldn't it be easier and less hassle to do it in a plain manual car that you have experience in etc and has dual controls - would like to know the insurance side of things too.

Auto only, which would cover you to drive auto with paddles. One would need to take the test in a proper manual to obtain a manual licence...

I think, and I may be wrong here, it's a theoretical question. More of an "I'm interested to know" rather than "I'm on my way there now".

I'd go with the "auto" license, as it's not a manual is it?

The porsche is a bit over kill but this could be entirely possible with say the new Clio RS which is flappy paddles only.

There is no 'automatic with flappy paddles' licence option. rolleyes

You would have an automatic license as there is no manual clutch to deal with.

Automatic refers to the operation of the clutch, not the selection of the gear ratio... so you'd get an auto license.

My uncle (driving instructor) told me that one of his students wanted to take their test in their car rather than his. No problem, but it was a Peugeot 1007 with the flappy paddles.

Her Dad was not amused when she got an auto license!
