Hmm... interesting.
So you drive to your local airfield, get the gates opened up onto the apron, drive out, open out the wings then carry out all of your external pre-flight checks. Then you phone ahead to where you are flying to, give your details and 'book in'. Then you can get back in, and book in with ATC for departure.
For what this is going to cost, why wouldn't you just have a nice little Piper PA28 parked up at your local airfield, drive over there, still do all of the above, but fly there in an actual plane, rather than a car-plane?

At a guess, because then you would have a car at the other end.So you drive to your local airfield, get the gates opened up onto the apron, drive out, open out the wings then carry out all of your external pre-flight checks. Flying cars will never work until they develop some way to generate lift without wings/propellors. I always envisage something out of Star wars or some form or repulsor lift technology. Just imagine a car that can just take off vertically and silently using repulsors and fly like that. Think Back to the future delorean style.

Then imagine some of the mouth breathing, window licking retards allowed on todays roads in one of these things. Unfortunately, unless my proposed cull ever happens, these things won't either
A Rotax 912, that's good thinking.

Video didn't work for me, but I'm guessing that's just a mock up, because with the rear wheels where they are, it's going to be difficult to get the tail down far enough to actually generate enough lift to take off. Unless the wing has an amazing amount of incidence/flaps to generate enough lift once you are going fast enough, but that's not the most efficient way to design your craft to get off the ground.

Thanks for that Adolf.

Do we really need someone like this in a flying car....

I rest my case

The take off speed is 90mph. How are you legally going to achieve that?
My commute on the m25 generally involves a stretch of m23 at the start. It's usually clear enough, and there are no cameras

How do light aircraft with tailwheels overcome that? Does it cause a similar problem?amancalledrob said:

Does it cause a similar problem?Planes with tail wheels (tail draggers) sit the wings at an angle designed to generate lift, angled down front to back in relation to the ground. As a result they usually have quite low take-off speeds. Incidentally to fly a tail dragger, its an extra qualification over and above the PPL.
This car-plane sits flat, the wings are flat in relation to the ground. They must generate lift at a certain speed, if you watch the video there's no lift, no lift, no lift, then the thing just pops off the ground at a certain speed.. Will make it interesting to land, you will literally have to fly it on to the tarmac with power on to maintain airspeed, then cut the power when you're on, or very nearly on the ground.
