The topic on the Keating Bolt got me thinking: What other cars have been announced / exhibited at motorshows, often with outlandish performance claims, but then never actually go on sale, or at best only a handfull get built?

A few recent one that I recall, and I'll apologise in advance if any are "in production":

Melling Hellcat

Farboud GTS

Connaught

Trident Iceni

And yet another attempt to resurrect Jensen

It's possible to start-up a car company and successfully get a supercar in to production, Pagani & koenigsegg have done it, so why do so many fail?
Is it simply (lack of) money, over ambition, or just bad luck?

Does the TVR Typhon count as a supercar? How many MG XPower SVs were built?

The typhon was killed off by the demise if TVR but some versions exist albeit perhaps not as per the original spec.

SVs were made. I've seen one in the flesh in Poole

Mclaren have bored the arse off me with that P1, I have never seen a company take so long to bring a car to market. OTOH, Lamborghini got the aventador up and running in lightning time.
