My co car has a reversing cam, which is really handy considering it's bulk.

How hard can it be for manufacturers to fit these as standard facing the front and rear, for both insurance/accidental issues along with car security where, the cam is activated when someone nears the vehicle.

There are plenty of retrofit options on the market. Do any manufacturers actually offer these as an extra or standard equipment?

Range Rovers- many have the reversing camera as standard (which is excellent); option list has multi-view cameras covering 360 degrees around the car.

I think BMW do the 360 degree ones too.

I would find this more useful than a lot of gadets in cars. Front and rear HD cameras with sound on a loop. In the event of an accident then 5 minutes before and after is saved to a flash drive.

I think some drivers would see them as an unwanted black box or invasion of privacy. Other drivers, like yourself, would welcome them.

Due to the diversity of opinion I think they are probably best left as aftermarket fit items. So the drivers who want them can move them between cars when the change cars, and drivers who don't want them don't have to have them. (Not just thinking new cars, but possibly used cars.)

I suppose in-built cameras can save time in some instances... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcG-rjoYiMo&t=5...
