Hi guys,

I am travelling to Aberdeen from Leeds to pick up a car, and would like to take said car back to Leeds via the best route possible.

I am willing to travel a bit out of my way for a good road, I understand the A82 is decent(certainly looks that way from pictures!)

Thanks in advance.

The A93 from Ballater is a great driving road, fast sweeping bends, rushing rivers, then up the mountains near Braemar towards the ski lodge, long sweeping bends that you see for miles in front if anything is coming & drive as sensibily as you like!!

B9077 to the B974 to the B976 to the A93 to the B950 on the B924 to pitlochrly (in hertfordshire silly ) head down the A9 (boring) to A827 scream along the banks of loch tay. at the end of the road then left towards stirling via the knights that say NEEEeeee or across via the A85 to the A82 down the side loch lomond.

Then you are out of my normal roads and i haven't got a clue

out of leeds to Otley, go cross country to Skipton, Grassington, Buckden, Aysgarth, Hawes, Keld, Kirkby Stephen, over to Penrith where you pick up the A685 to ALston, up to Haltwhitsle, along the OLD ROman Road, (the tourist road NOt the A69), up the A68 Dere STreet, over to Rothbury, pick up the A697 to Coldstream, comem off on B6362 to Lauder, go via Langshaw to Tweedbank (actually sounth for a few miles) pick up A7 at Tweedbank and head north to Ed. Cross the Forth- onward...

Aberdeen > Braemar > Glenshee > Blairgowrie > Perth is a fabulous stretch of road.

The Skipton-Grassington-Buckden-Aysgarth stretch is particularly pleasant.

As for heading North - I suppose you could join the M6 near Sedbergh/Tebay and slice through "the boring bit" if you're in a rush, then take the aforementioned A93 north from Perth (and vice versa).

A93 has been featured in Evo recently in an Aston Zagato feature. Cracking road with excellent scenery.

Head round the Edinburgh ring road & take the Moffat road SSW ish - I've just come that way today heading south, its an awesome section of road worth the effort. Gets you back on the M74 eventually.

And yes it was'nt the most direct route for me either hehe

Braemar > Glenshee = superb, very twisty but quick.

Glenshee > Bridge of Cally = sump gaurd needed and be prepared to leave your seat a few times.

Ironically, one of the best drives on this stretch was driving a diesel Transit Connect at 110%... anything quicker and I'd probably be part of the scenery by now!
