I've been told I need a high end tracker for insurance reasons. I plan on keeping the car for good and yes I do want it back if it gets stolen! There seem to be so many choices and subscriptions does anyone have any recomendations? Obviously a 'for life' subscription will work out cheaper and I like the idea of being able to locate online but not essential. If GPS/GSM can be blocked by a container is there any point in them when the tracker VHF systems are so much cheaper? Do I just get the cheapest the insurance company will accept because any half decent thief will just remove it anyway? Any advice welcome! Cheers

The GPS-based systems can be very good, but they can be jammed.

The last job I heard of involving a tracker was when an R8 was stolen from the owner's drive following a break in. The owner was on a different continent and received a text informing him of an unexpected movement. He called a mate, who checked on the house, saw the car was missing and police were called. Meanwhile location updates were being fed back live. The car was located a couple of miles away with scrotes ripping out the interior looking for the tracker. Unfortunately they were able to get away in the vehicle when officers pulled up. The location continued to be updated and officers were directed to where the car was abandoned another couple of miles away.
