I decided I didnt need the 4x4 for winter and now I have just over £1000 for something interesting.

I wanted a Land Rover but its looks like I'm a bit short by another £1000.
Then I looked at louts 7 kits and all I can get for £1000 I could build form scratch for £300 in a weekend.
So im running out of ideas frown

Criteria:
Interesting
Not an mx5 (been there done that unless its forced induction)
I would like to get my money back, when it comes to selling it on.

Doesn't have to have an mot, but I would like to get it on the road in weeks not years. I don't mind thirsty, petrol or diesel.

The make might not be interesting, but low mileage, very rare, worth a bit more when done up and a nice creamy V6!

LS400! Silky smooth 4 litre V8, just try and get one that's had the suspension refreshed.

MR2? Either MK1 or Mk2. They're about as cheap as they're ever going to get. If you're not fussed about doing a bit of work you could even get a MK2 turbo.

I went for an S Type, an early 4.0 one. Been fun so far, averaging 18 to the gallon and sorting out the rear window regulators. Still, for £900 with tax and ticket it could have been worse.

I also looked at a really clean Maestro as well but decided against it, same with an early XR3 on carbs.

Something that wouldn't step on the toes of my other cars would be nice.

So maybe not a V8 barge.

I did think no to the 328 at first but thinking about it I do miss the sound of a straight 6.

I was going to suggest an E36 328 (seems to be the default PH choice for around 1k nowadays) but was wondering whether it would be 'interesting' enough after having looked at your garage.

Really is a decent car and eminently modifiable. Worth a look.

You don't need any more cars. smile

Looking at your garage the only thing that wouldn't step on toes is a 4x4 of some type.

For £1k you could probably get a Jimny or maybe an old vitara.
Something without a roof and with silly big wheels.

I would say an old landy or a cj/tj wrangler - but you won't get them for £1k.

Having had a quick glance at your (lovely and diverse) garage, I've noticed your life has been devoid thus far of Japanese Turbo nuttery.

Solution;

Toyota Soarer 2jz twin turbo.

That one is sold, but there is this one on retro rides which looks like a bargain. The engine alone is worth that much to the right person.

How about a 325i Touring, they look good nowadays, lovely engine and gearbox, a bit of space, pretty good handling, and no boot lid to worry about.

Yup. You can get a working rev 1 or rev 2 turbo for this sort of cash or a dead rev 3.
