I need some advice from the wisdom of PH

I currently have my 2000 red rose Tuscan up for sale. I have had my fun out it and want to move it on. I have been offered a potential trade for a 911 996 C4 which is a GT3 lookalike 1999.

spec on the 911
Full specialist or opc history, recent service
Genuine Porsche leather bucket seats with colour coded backs
Colour coded console
Colour coded dials
Colour coded seatbelts
Aftermarket nav unit
Genuine Porsche split rims with conti sc2 all round, new ones on the rear
Stainless steel exhaust tips
Just redone all the exhaust brackets
Very recent clutch and flywheel
If you can find the issue of 911 Porsche world with her in, she was on the cover (nov 12 i think)
86k on the clock
Oh and its bright yellow.

I will not be leaving TVR as i will have my 99 4.2 cerbera (A keeper smile )

Bearing in mind i have 4 cars in the house and work away about 6 months a year. I am i mad to consider this? and is the 911 worth the same as my tuscan?

Average tuscan price is about 15

Average 996 price about 11

Id have thought 911 + cash

Another question is do you actually want an old 996 C4? Especially as it'll be a 4th car and they're really not that much fun to drive, certainly not compared to a tuscan! Wouldn't get me that excited tbh

This was my thoughts too to be honest but Scott still has his exciting Cerb so it gives him an option of a boring 4WD Porsche for when he wants a nice steady cruise out somewhere.

The more i think on it the less i need a 4th car only really bought the Tuscan so i still had a summer toy on the road, Now the Cerb is almost running again i don't think i need it.

a summer boat like a dory with a 50/60hp would be more fun i think smile

I saw a 996c4 dressed up as a gt3 at a Tvr event earlier this year
(Garners open day)
If it's the same one, then it looked horrendous, so I'd walk a mile
Regardless of whether it was that one or not, dressing something as a car it isn't, is always a waste of time

Check the 911 doesn't have the well documented engine issue and you're not just the victim of someone trying to unload it. I'm sure it's probably not the case, but well worth checking.

I'd probably give the 911 a miss. Sell the Tuscan, bank the savings and focus on getting the Cerb on the road again.

walk a mile from the 996, instead dig yourself out a beautiful old aircooled 3.2, as a 4th car it would make a lovely investment and its also great fun to drive.

I have had a Cerb, currently got a Chimaera 4.7, Esprit Turbo and the 911. It feels so different but I do enjoy driving it. Its also just as pretty to look at - should just be able to still get one within budget but be quick as values are on the up.
Grand Prix white or Guards red is what you need!!

I reckon you already know you don't want a 996 C4 Scott. I reckon you knew that before you posted the thread but just needed to hear it from other people too.

On the 911, I would seriously check the maintenance invoices. About this age/a bit younger you can expect some pretty large bills. My 996 ran along at around £2,500 a year for servicing and parts. But at the 9 year point I spent £8,800 that year!
Things to check:
Front Radiators (left and right)
Cooling system (water pump, oil/air separator, hoses, etc)
Clutch and flywheel, I know you said these were done recently but only expect 40k miles out of a clutch
Engine mounts
Suspension (wishbones, stunt mounts, shocks)

That is before the usual checks for leaks, service cycle, tyres, brakes, etc.

I don't want to put you off a 911, but German engineering does not mean bullet proof and nothing is cheap on these cars.
