All,

I know how much everyone likes a 'what car' sort of thread, and I have been trying my hardest not to post, but I've given in as I am in completely two minds so I need the help.

I've got a car allowance at work, and was originally going looking at getting a BMW 1 Series. I am only a single male, so no family or anything like that, and nothing likely to happen in the near future.

So my two options are really quiet different.

The first, a BMW 120d Sport Auto. The only option I would tick is Xenon's. This is in my allowance so I don't have to pay a penny myself. +'s for this. 0-60 in 7.2 seconds, RWD, and IMO look really good.

I then stumbled across a Audi A6 2.0 TDI S Line multitronic. This is only £50 a month more than then 1 Series and I would only need to pay for £20 of that.
+'s this is a much more executive car, a lot more kit (e.g. leather, nav etc.), comes with xenon's as standard.

The reason I'm torn is I was looking at a BMW for the RWD, and probably a lot more fun to drive (do about 15k a year, half country lanes, half motorway), but knowing I can get something like an A6 for similar money has just sent me back to square 1.

Is it an obvious choice to go for the A6, or would you just stick to what I know I like (had one previously) and get a 120d?

Personally in your situation I think the a6 may be a bit too much, dads car ish? Plus if you can save yourself £50 what's the Audi do that's £50 better (per month)?

Presumably you would be financing this personally, using the allowance?

What happens if your employment situation changes?

Maxxing the allowance may not be the best idea - it will be you on the hook for it.

When you say you get an allowance, do you mean actual allowance, or is it a company car?

The A6 is a big car for the 2.0TDI.

Personally I`d have the 1 series so long as space isn`t an issue.

If you like xenons, get the A6 and add the optional LED headlamps. They are really cool. biggrin

If it's a car allowance rather than company car scheme, then I would check the cost to lease privately (e.g PCP) - it could be cheaper once you factor in the loss of allowance and BIK tax.

Lease and PCP are different things completely...

Just out of interest, can you get it without the S-Line, and is it cheaper? I'd go that way if it's for motorway wafting.
