Am fed up with the ease at which the Conti Sport Contacts on my C250 coupe are puncturing. I have had six go on me in the 21 months I have owned the car. Our other car has had zero punctures in a similar period, so I can't see how it could be foul play (if that's what you may be thinking).

The wheels are 18". Any recommendations for an alternative option to the Conti's?

Different wheels each time? And you need to provide the full tyre spec - width, aspect ratio, speed rating, load rating as well as the diameter if you want recommendations.

Sorry... 5 punctures shared between the two rear tyres and one on the front off side.

Tyre specs are:

Front 225/40/18 Y
Rear 255/35/18 Y

I went through a spate of getting loads of punctures too, had 3 in a single year, all too close to the edge to be repaired. Then I also noticed one of the front tyres had a gash in it, which was deep enough to see the cords and then earlier this year I noticed one front tyre had a bulge.

This is with all different brands and types of tyre too. The bulge appeared in a Goodyear winter tyre.

I like to keep tyres on the same axle the same type, so it really pisses me off when I have to get just the one tyre replaced. I can't justify chucking a tyre with decent tread left on the opposing side.

Any building work going on in your area? A friend got 4 punctures in 6 months and then worked out it was because he drove past a building site and all the crap (screws, nails, etc) was ending up in the road.

Drove 20 seconds around to avoid the site and no punctures. Getting the tyres plugged is also a good idea but can only be done once.

yes I'm with Froomee on this one, are you sure it's the tyres? Would a manufacturer really release a tyre that punctured so easily or so frequently? They're very common tyres.

I had the same issue with CSC's and I don't live/work anywhere near a building site/B&Q/Homebase etc. My suggestion - get a different brand.

What have been the causes of the punctures, nails, screws, flint...?

Don't forget that revulcanisation is often possible where punctures can't be plugged - costs <£50 and saves a rather expensive tyre!

I thought they were perhaps a softer compound and therefore more easy to puncture.. I have had nails four times and no clear cause twice. Two were repairable with the other four requiring complete replacement.

I live in London so of course there is building work here and there. Interesting to hear that someone else has had similar issues with CSC's.

May try Pirelli or Good Year then.

They are quite soft.

Wider tyres are more at risk because there is simply more contact patch. Likewise, obviously mileage is related to risk.

Also, if you have two wildly different cars you are likely to use them to go to different places so risk of puncture would be different.

If your other car is a snotter then it's still plausible to contemplate 3rd party envy. Much less so iff they are all parked on private property though.

Fair point regarding the different routes for each car. The other is a 2008 Honda CRV Exec petrol so a nice car also if a few years older. Both are parked on a London street.

Have just got back from the fitters and gone for P-Zero Rosso's on the front axle. I am mentally satisfied even if the tyres make no difference in reality! These were also cheaper than the Conti's at £240 fitted for the pair.

Thanks for all the help and advice. Will advise in the event of any recurrence!
