In the motion of buying a weekend car.

Some I've seen have crazing paint and peeling laquer, they are metalics

Any tips on how to repair if at all posible

Minor scrapes to bumpers etc can be sorted out with diy primer top coat and lacquer. But many metallics, especially light colours are hard to match. Holts do reasonable paint but other makes are generally shi×.

Smart repairers are poor substitutes for proper paint shops and often the repairs are temporary.

Bear in mind any poor repair will devalue the car......

As far as the cost of the car is conerned it wo't devalue by much, talking shed money
