Buying a new car
Discussion
So basically i'm 18 just started uni and am trying to sort out a car, i'm looking at 1.4I petrol SXI astras 05-07 plate, as my budget is around 3000 max. Today i lost out on an 07 plate astra as someone bought it just before i could put down the deposit, however i have since found an 05 plate which looks identical.
My question is, would an 07 plate astra be faster / accelerate harder than an 05 plate? or would it be exactly the same. Also, what are the differences between 05/06/07 plates? i have personally only noticed a change in alloys.
Any help is appreciated. And if you can find one in that price range please link it to me as i'm still looking desperately!

Without wishing to take the piss acceleration on any type of 1.4 Astra will hardly be rapid be it 05 or 07.
Edit to add your link is a damn site better than anything i could have dreamt of at18!!!
Haha i know it wont be rapid, but i've been in my friends vw polo 1.2 and that was pretty fast? nice accelleration, i just want a bit of powerEdit to add your link is a damn site better than anything i could have dreamt of at18!!!
I once test drove an 05 plate 1.8 litre Astra which I found gutless. I don't think '1.4 Astra' and 'power' sit well in the same sentence.
I understand being young and the cost of insurance etc. but there must be more nippy cars out there you can consider. Those Astras are fairly heavy cars for the 1.4 engine to be shifting.

Don't know about wheels but I have driven many of those as hire cars, and hope to never drive one again. There are much better first cars out there.

Newer, faster, lower mileage, much better MPG.

Probably the wrong place to ask about a Vauxhall PHeads don't seem to like the griffin at all.
I think the 1.4 is standard output through out the range it was the 1.6 that got a bit of of a boost later on.
I had a 1.2i Nova when I passed my test and it felt like a rocket ship because I hadn't driven anything but a 1.0 Corsa (it may have been a 1.2) on my lessons.
I like the look of the sport hatch and if its what you like the look of then Id say go for it. Plenty about, not had a real problem with my Vauxhall's and find them pretty cheap for services parts etc.

There are so many better cars around for that money.
I started off in Vauxhalls and loved them. Then I tried other cars and never went (or want) to go back.
I won't suggest other cars as I don't know what you can insure, I just suggest finding out what the other options are and test driving them.
