Driving to work, I get that awful feeling - flat tire!

No worries. Pull over, get out compressor, pump up, and head to garage. But no - completely gone. As such, tyre weld will not cover this problem. Damn.

So, as I don't have AA (I transferred it over to the wife, and I opted for macho route of not bothering - mistake number 1), I had to call recovery.

Wait a little while, and as the lorry pulls up to save me, I carefully place the pump etc back in the boot. And what did I find?

fkING SPACESAVER!

I never knew I had one. I presumed it was the same as my old GT - emergency repair kit only. I'd never even looked properly!

So, a nice 70 quid lesson to start the day!

I think I would have kept quiet about it. You should post in the "Things you didn't know you had on your car " thread.

I mean, what are car manufacturers thinking about when they supply you with a space saver in the event of a puncture wink

That's quite funny.

(Your 159 looks awesome by the way, the black with red callipers really suits it)

I find it makes me feel better if some tells you how stupid they can be as well so here goes;-

I drove to South Wales with the family once and the whole way listened to this annoying knocking noise (not engine).
Called into a village Garage where we were staying and asked him to check it out.
Went back at 4:00pm and he gave me a small stone he had found embeded into the deep trad of the new tyres. What a knob.

As I blushed and gave him a tenner to keep his mouth shut, another "troublesome Englishman" reversed his car into the garage pit right before our eyes.
Made me feel so much lower down on the 'Who's a big tit' scale.

I once got the AA to trailer me all the way back from Birmingham to South Wales as my car wouldn't start; I'd been to a car show in the day and then when hometime came, the car would turn over quite happily but not start. It had been behaving flawlessly up until that point so I was rather annoyed.

The AA guy tried everything but couldn't get it going; it seemed no fuel was getting to the engine. Perhaps a dodgy pump, who knows. So on the trailer we went, all the way back to Newport.

He deposited me on my drive some 3 hours later, with me knackered and fairly pissed-off.

As I went inside and smouldered over a cup of tea, the thought occurred to me: "My car has a fuel cut-off switch under the bonnet...", and I had a sudden flashback to opening then closing the bonnet rather hard before going into the car show...

...one dash outside and "click" later, car started with no problem. FML.

Despite the rookie error, it still looks awesome there!

Love the 159! Such a shame to see it taken off the production line - the concept pictures of its replacement are disappointing.

Ha! Same thing happened in my old 145 - passenger seat was slammed back in to position, and when I went to leave, it wouldn't start! Thought it was cambelt, for sure. Waited 3 hours or thereabouts for the AA... he pressed the button under the seat, and hey presto! I now make a point of knowing where the cut-off switch is in all my cars!

You're not doing a lot of good for dispelling the historical stereotypes of Alfa's public image! biggrin

Seriously, lovely machine. Enjoy it!

Years ago had an old Cavalier, then one day the front nearside wheel started to wobble about, this got worse so a few days later took it to the garage expecting some sort of suspension/steering faliure.

Got a call the next day, some of the wheel nuts were loose..........

No wonder getting a tow is so expensive with you lot about, at least when my 944 conked out recently I had the decency to know way more about it than the bloke sent to sort it and enough knowledge to thwart the Porsche specialist who just happened to appear who was just dying to save the day by telling me it was my DME relay.
