Selling car - private plate

Sent off a the V317 form along with MOT and V5 certificate

Today I got the V5C back with the original number plate on, but still waiting for the tax disc with the original reg plate and obviously my retention certificate.

So my private plate is now not registered for the car I am selling, can I just take it off, put the old plate on and complete the transaction with my buyer??
