Sorry, I know how you hate these. I have an 06 Honda Accord Tourer Petrol currently. My job is changing and will now involve a 100 mile commute each day.

As much as I hate diesels it seems to make financial sense to swap to the devils fuel. I don't want to put any more money in and so will be looking for a straight swap. A conservative estimate would value my car at circa £4K.

From what I can see it would seem that a poverty spec Mondeo is the way to go. Something like this:

Anyone got any better suggestions?

Lots of choice at that budget.

Do you need a large car similar size to the Accord?

otherwise why not a Focus sized car?

If you need a Mondeo sized car then there's the Avensis, diesel version of the Accord, Octavia, Mazda 6 to name a few.

I think the 1.8 TDCI is awful in the Mondeo and they are st on fuel.

Given your mileage, a 2.0 TDI Passat Bluemotion seems sensible. They do a steady 50mpg and some have 20k service intervals (even if you get one on 10k intervals a specialist will service it with longlife oil).

Don't need anything quite a big as the accord. The diesels accords are supposed to be good but pricey.

The Passat bluemotion looks good with nearly 70 MPG quoted. Need to find one on budget.

That seat looks good also, I had an A4 years ago and the interior is identical to what I had.
