Chris Harris video: the Ferrari 512 TR

'Where's the video?' came the cry after Chris's last 512 TR update - well, it's here!

I'm rather glad the 512 didn't self-combust the other week. Having to broadcast an especially indulgent Drive film in which it takes the lead role would have smarted a bit if I'd been filling out the insurance papers and still smelling of burnt 80s Fiat switchgear.

This is something of a departure for myself and videographer Neil, but when a car looks and sounds this good, you don't need me gassing on about how the 512's engine sits a few centimetres lower than a Testarossa's. What you need is some decidedly 80s tunes and a heap of uncorked flat-12.

This car, on those roads really was a special experience. The 512 is so wide that to push it hard and get it rolling around you need space - the N85 is the perfect place to do that. Sadly Neil is now permanently damaged from watching some Italian Lothario sitting in the lay-by we were using to shoot a corner croon Radiohead's Creep to his squeeze. Even now he can't understand why he chose to sing Creep. Nor why she was listening.

The big question for me is, which is harder to powerslide, A 512 TR or a Countach QV?

I know the TR quite well, the flat 12 is a masterpiece but I never, ever, got anywhere near sliding one.

This is one of the best videos I've watched in ages. Chris being his usual comical self, a brilliant bit of film making with fantastic shots and a brilliant soundtrack (love the 80s/Flat 12 combo). I was laughing with excitement at the car, god I'm jealous, and so much respect for Chris who drives any car as it should be and in such style.
Amazing, only criticism, why was it so short. I could have watched and listened to that for at least 10 minutes.

Glorious setting, amazing scenery and roads, mega motor & sounds. Great video just a little to much music, but hey racing at Goodwood video now that was pure noise.
Outrun game the car reminds me of that classic arcade game, chasing the baddies!!

I really liked it for all the reasons stated above. The only thing that let it down for me was the continuity of the video to audio, Downshifts seen top down from 2nd-1st audio sounds awesome but in the next shot 1/2 a second later the cars in 3rd. Mountain pass with huge drop on one side and cliff on the right next visual is exhaust shot through woodland.

I'm being a nitpicking tt but its a guy enjoying his 512TR on the limit in a white suit for sts and giggles and for nothing more than youtube money and our enjoyment who am I to complain!

Nice camera angle on the shift gate, that was inspired. Really loved the suit idea aswell.

One thing though - what's that tiny little thing dangling from your undercarriage? I'm not saying you've got a tiny todger, I'm saying there's this little thing that you can see on lots of the low angle shots that breaks up the otherwise straightish line of darkness under the car...

EDIT: You can see it in the lead image for the article, just to the right of the front-left tyre's shadow.

If you surveyed a target audience on, with and without, would they really choose not to hear the pure sounds of the car...or is it just me?

For once, I think it fits nicely. There's plenty of flat 12 to be heard, but something to spice it up as well.

I can't think of many cars I want more at the moment, unutterably bewitching thing.
