Good friend is having to sell his car due to redundancy, illness and generally life s
tting on him from a great height...
Currently he has an S-Max as he has 3 kids. Wants to free up some cash by selling that and getting something cheaper but reliable and with space.
He's looking at Citroen Berlingos which being French horrified me. They do however look very practical and he likes the fact he could chuck bikes in the back.
So max budget about 3k-4k.
Lowish miles; say sub 50k
Reliable
Space for 5
Decent economy and running costs
Not lose too much money when he finds his feet in a year or so.
Tow bar would be nice for his trailer
I thought this looked good value - anyone know anything about them?

I had a Berlingo work van. It was 5 years old and had done 140k when I had it. I drove it to 170k without issues, it had rolled over 200k when I left the company, it needed suspension work and a clutch by then. But it stood up to abuse pretty well.
It was the 2.0 HDI, it went quite well when empty and would return mid to high 40sMPG. Was a hoot to drive and pretty sure it was galvanised as there wasn't a spec of rust anywhere.
Much, much nicer vehicle than Fiat Doblo and Renault Kangoo, which are it main rivals.
