So its soon time to replace my mums 2004 fiesta 1.4 as its to be passed onto my brother to learn in and later drive. it's generally shagged at its 62k miles and dual control converted so should do very nicely for this purpose. Alongside the fiesta sits my dad's 2008 E90 318d, used for work site visits and long trips (including annual holiday trip for which its slightly on the small side) with my car also available during the week if necessary (BMW 540i).

Both of my parents are starting to get immobile owing to a couple of recent things and so are looking for comfort over sportiness, they find it hard to get in and out of the BMW as its a little low (fiesta is easier for them to get in/out of) but owing to likely mileage to be done for my dads work it will stay for the time being (replaced by something else in about 3 years time i think). The fiesta is used relatively little, to and from work -10 mile round trip and general pottering around for a coffee/supermarket etc, clocking up 4k miles over the past year. They typically go out together at weekends and if the E90 is away my car is available for longer trips (I commute by bike/train).

She was previously looking at things like a Kuga/Duster etc. but seem to only be available in diesels which i don't think would suit her usage patterns, she likes toys and generally gets cars at 1 year old (would love new!) and runs them until they break, budget of about £15k and for that the above 2 seem to suit the purpose to a tee as she hasn't ventured more than 50 miles away from home all year. Manual/auto irrelevant and It'll be parked on the drive but can be next to the powered garage for charging....they want to minimise the day to day costs of motoring as far as possible - £3 for 100 miles in electricity sounds good. Are the above the best bet or would something else do the job better?
