Sorry it was a one off prototype. Surely it would have sold well especially as an xjr version.

Someone, who probably knew more about it the you, clearly thought otherwise!

It looks beautiful but did they bother doing the engineering and strengthening? If they didn't, it might not have been feasible to make it look good and drive well, or have been too expensive to develop for the small volumes (even the saloons weren't big sellers compared to an S-Class or 7-Series, at least worldwide).

I wonder what sort of torsional rigidity the roofless one had. At a guess: soggy newspaper levels.

Ah, the Daimler Corsica, made in 1996 to celebrate 100 years of the Daimler brand (which had actually been moribund for a couple of years prior to that)
It was a trimmed, painted shell, basically, with no engine or running gear.
The only thing that actually worked was the electric hood, using Audi parts, apparently. Even the instrument cluster was never connected, and behind the heater controls was a big empty space.

However, now it is a complete, registered, running car. It seems the running gear was set aside for it, but never fitted.
Have a look here for the massive amount of work required. http://www.davidmarksgarages.co.uk/daimlercorsica_...
There's enough detail and info on the subsequent pages to show you how to build your own!
