Bridgestone potenza run flats - 225/45/r17 91 w re050a1 yz, then there's is 91 y re050a1 yz and finally 91w re050. What's the difference between them?!

The "w", "y", "yz" things are all speed ratings.

w=168mph (270km/h)
y=186mph (300km/h)
z means "above 186mph". (>300km/h)

The 'A' at the end of the designation denotes an asymmetric tread pattern as opposed to directional.

What sort of driving so you do ? Big annual miles or do you merit lateral grip and wet stopping distance more than durability?

Also why not Michelin PS3's?

Safety, after experiencing first hand how good they handle with a blowout at speed and being able to drive on a flat.

Mainly as the rear tyres have fairly good tread left and not wanting to mix up brands again. I have contis on the front at the mo and the handling is awful

I've looked at some reviews and the bridgestones come out bottom, who do the best run flats these days?

This, can't think of a better option out there. Without a doubt the best all-weather tyre I've ever experienced.

How many miles did you get out of them?

Can't tell yet as I've only put about a thousand on them, but by all accounts they wear better than PS3s et al.
