This is information for those not in the know.
If you have a long ncb on a private car think twice about transferring it to a van or commercial policy. I did this for one year when I tried to swap it back I found very few company's willing to accept it.

Yes, i had the same issue a number of years ago, some , but not all companies will not trasfer NCB from a commercial vehicle policy to a private policy.
WHY?? no decent excuse was given when I asked the question.
Be careful stating Insuance is a rip off... you may be pasted with the tin hat tar brush by the usual suspects - they are all jolly nice fellows only out to help the public, dont you know..

If the NCB was used on a car policy during the Last 2 years can you not get a NCB proof letter from that insurer showing what you had before moving to a van policy and then use that?

You would loose the last year but at least you would have some NCB to use.

Happy to be corrected on this, I'm just thinking out loud. smile

I may have been a bit hasty branding this a rip just wanted the title to be a bit grabbing so plenty of people are aware of the practice.
Jordan this happens to me a few months ago now. Reading another thread some one made me realise that one of the points of this site is to share knowledge with others ( I know who would of thought...) so only just getting round to posting. I'm guessing I've left that option to late. Thanks mind

As above, are you sure you can't get a "proof of no-claims" type letter from your last personal insurer?

I'm sure he can but honestly why should he? It's the little things like this that annoy customers.

How can driving a commercial vehicle, which are often just cars with boarded up windows and arguable riskier re larger blind spots etc, around for a year not earn another additional years no claims?
