a)Ideally it must have been bought BRAND NEW by yourself, not handed down to you by your parents, relatives etc.......

b) If you bought the car secondhand it doesn't matter, post it up anyway.....I know a taxi driver that works off Malta airport who's Mercedes he has had for nearly thirty years is on 380,000 miles on the same engine, but the car has been resprayed twice, because of the white paint fading in the sun..

c)Photographs would be nice, including the odometer reading.....smile

My '56' Astra Sporthatch in Sept 2006 before being prepped.

Currently on 146,000 ish.

At about 50,000 miles (Oct 2009) I moved house to live with the now wife but kept my old job so the 100 miles a day soon racks up the mileage. LPG was added at this point to ease the day to day costs.

I will grab the odo reading photo tonight.

I think the stipulation that you have to have owned the car since new is a bit of a blocker!

Most PHers who've done mega miles do so in cars they've bought as snotter barges and the like. We're not minicabbers biggrin

I did 75K in a 2.0 TT from new as the only driver, but I owned a 135K e39 523iSE for about 40K miles.

How many people buy a new car then run it until it dies of mileage?

Agreed re buying from new makes blocks a lot of us.
Putting miles on a new car can be expensive but I've currently got an old snotter that is as near to free motoring as it gets.

It's still only done less than 100k but I'm putting 1k on every week.

I had a 250+k Honda civic eg coupe last winter. I say + as the speed sensor in the gearbox had failed so the odometer stopped working the last year of its life.
Engine still ran great and it had a nice smooth gear change. Unfortunately though it sucombed to rust in the end and I sold it to someone who took it banger racing!

Kilometers or Miles?

Pretty amazing either way!

Miles some time ago I had the car originally then it became a company vehicle in company I ran then a pool car then a family run aout then finally sold it to a friend where it is still in used as a hack. I also had a Volvo V40 PETROL car which covered 350,000 miles in a similar manner pool cars in company use can easily run like taxis never cooling down. Same garage serviced both my pal Colin owns several garages services all my cars post warranty has done so for over 30 years. Similar service record to the Audi several clutches but eveything worked on that car and it was still an excellent drive. With modern lubrication and regular servicing I reckon many car engines driven with reasonable care cold exceed 300,000 miles. Beyond that you need a Colin but I only know one of those.
