Anyone else done this or is it me being a bit thick?

Took a bland work pool car to the Tescos up here in the Shetlands (where no one locks anything) and went shopping. Came back and filled it up with shopping, bit weird though that someone had moved the seat all the way forward and dumped a load of kids stuff on the passenger seat. It was only after I almost snapped the key off trying to start the damn thing that I realised I was in completely the wrong car, that was a different colour, model and location from my car, errr duh.

Anyway, no doubt a cool story bro coming my way, but wondered if anyone else has done this and if they got any further than me hehe

Dropped my Saab off at the dealer for a service. I took my bike out of the boot to ride home and left it by the showroom door with the front wheel off. Dropped the key at the desk and came back out to put the wheel on. As I was putting on my helmet some daft bint came out and was pressing a remote key at my car to open it. She got more frustrated as it wouldn't respond. Sometimes when she was pressing the remote I could see another silver Saab further up flash its indicators. I carried on getting ready and when she was about to try the key in the lock I told her! biggrin

When I was younger my Dad had a Citroen BX. Having been shopping we came back to the car, in the car park, to find another BX parked next to us. Same colour, same year. When my Dad unlocked the car with the remote fob it opened both cars!

My girlfriends mum has also jumped in some poor guys car only to look over at the driver and realise that he wasn't her husband. She doesn't drive so doesn't pay attention to number plates etc. Best bit was her actual husband was parked facing the right direction to watch what happened.

That's a yes then hehe thought it was just me being stoopid. A mate of mine took the wrong aircraft flying once, that was quite impressive as it wasn't even fully serviceable biggrin

I went to pick up my girlfriend from a night out and she managed to get into the silver Volvo estate thingy in front of me, instead of my silver impreza. Apparently the bloke in the Volvo was not at all upset and thought his luck was in.

Wonder if he turns up hoping a drunk lady will just get in the car one night...

Me and my sister were once sitting in her Mk1 VW Polo behind a Mk1 Fiesta (both pale blue) waiting for our mother to come out of the chip shop. We watched her walk out with carrier full of our supper and get in the Fiesta. After about seven seconds she bailed out of the Fiesta, walked halfway towards us before doing an about turn back to the Fiesta to collect the chips (after some argument with the driver). Apparently she'd got in, thrown the food on the back seat, declared "there's a fking queue a mile long on there" before asking the driver what he was doing in her daughters car. They do look quite similar to be fair.

Many years ago a friend of mine was working for a market research company and the boss handed her the keys to the company P6 Rover and said she could have use of it. Nice motor, automatic 3.5 V8 but the key was a bit sticky in the door lock but fine in the ignition.

One evening some two months later her boss rings up and asks where the car is. She looks out of the window of her flat and confirms that the car is parked nicely on the road outside. Cue a number of phone calls back and forth and it finally transpires that the company P6 Rover, a 2000 version, had been in a station car park for the past two months and the Police were now treating it as an abandoned car having been rung up by the train company. The boss had got into the wrong car after a train trip to London and managed to drive it off subsequently handing the 'stolen' car over to my friend.

It all ended amicably with the rightful owner getting his car back and no charges were brought and my friend dined out for a long time on the story of her swanning about in a 'stolen' car for a couple of months.

The male driver looked like her daughter? Fancy!

I did however once get stopped in my Fiesta (flagged down) by some bloke who had locked himself out of his. I used my key to open his door......

My dad did this last year. He had a silver Volvo V50 which he parked outside my house when he came to visit. A hundred yards down the road was a silver Volvo V70. Same colour and basic shape but that's about it. Anyway, we went for a walk and on the way back passed the other car.

He stops, looks at the (kerbed) alloys and scratched bumpers and starts swearing and muttering about people who damage other people's cars. By now he's tried the remote which doesn't work and is trying to open it with a key. The rest of the family is now outside my house while I'm trying not to fall over laughing hehe

When he saw the state of me he stepped back, saw he was outside the wrong house and trying to open the wrong car and marched up the road to his own and pretended to check it over...

A few years ago there was a newspaper story about a bloke who had got into his Fiesta, not payed any attention to the identical one parked next to it and driven away only to be stopped later by the police with their blues & twos going.
Turned out that he had got into the wrong car and the keys had worked perfectly ,and the owner had reported it stolen. The police reckoned it was a million to one chance that the keys worked.

I was picking an elderly lady up to take to the eye clinic. As I was approaching her house a car was coming the other way and stopped outside her house to let me through, obviously not realising I wanted to stop there.

She was surprised when her car door was opened and my little old lady got into her car.

Not done it myself but I picked the girlfriend up from work a few weeks back in my silver 3 door Astra. I watched her walking along the road in the door mirror and then fell about laughing when she climbed into the silver 5 door Astra parked behind me. Apparently it was someone waiting to pick up another girl from her office. She still gets wound up about it!
