I put this in the Roads section but it hasn't really had any response so, perhaps it will here...

At the start of November (1st -3rd November) I'll be Doncaster and figured I'd take an ever so slight detour back home to Surrey... via Wales... to really get to grips with my M-lite and enjoy the roads & views Wales has to offer.

The plan is to start my journey home early(ish) at 8am on 3rd November and, as things stand, I'll be tracking across from Doncaster via part of the Snake Pass, A6013, A6187 & Edale Road, heading towards Aberystwyth. The route to Aberystwyth continues on the A4407 & A4391 (these were a couple of the roads used by Top Gear when filming the Aston Martin V12 Vantage) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q0Svvdrx_E, before jumping on to the A470/A487.

I'll be having lunch at Aberystwyth and from there, I'll be heading down to Abergavenny via the A482, A4069 (Black Mountain Pass), A4068, A4067, A4221, A4109, etc.

From Abergavenny, I'll be heading straight home.

The thought occurred to me that I should see if there was any interest from anyone here to join me on some (or all) of the roads.
If you're at all interested, let me know and we can discuss where we could meet, etc.

You can find my route here: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=20689593989...

Cheers

Can I make a suggestion?

Instead of turning left to Dove Holes at Chapel-en-le-Frith, carry on down the A6 to Whaley Bridge, turning left at the Roundabout towards Macclesfield. Continue on to Macc, turning right at the lights onto the B5470. Carry through Macc on the A537 until Broken Cross (Shell Garage/Tesco Express) and the signs to Gawsworth/Holmes Chapel (B5392). Keep on that, crossing the A34, towards Holmes Chapel/Jodrell Bank. Head south on the A535 towards Holmes Chapel, go through the village and take the A54 towards Middlewich. Then take the A530 south towards Crewe and Nantwich to pick up your route from then on.

That can be a really good run out, and there are no Gatso's & SPEC's cameras as you head into Buxton and leave towards the Cat and Fiddle and Congleton on the Dunber's (A54) road.

Can I make a suggestion as well :-)

Stay on the A525 all the way to Ruthin and then the A5105 from Ruthin down to the A5, its an epic road and mostly pretty quiet.

Did it a few years ago in my E36 318is and it was driving heaven.

Thanks for the tips.
I've amended the route slightly to include some of those roads!

If it was me I wouldn't bother with Aberystwith

I'd come inland and take the A483 from Newtown down to Crossgates

That's the best road I've ever ridden on the bike, absolutely stunning.

Not the best scenery but the road itself is just brilliant...

I'll be heading back with the RC8 when the bike swap happens...

Edit to add:

On the way back into England do yourself a favour, head a bit further east and go to Monmouth and down through Tintern, another cracker...

And if you are at Crossgates you are a stones throw (well 10 mins..) from the Elan valley...now that IS a scenic road, and a great drive.Often featured in various mags and tv progs.

Oh, and while I remember, the road you end up on coming from Edale that you join to head down to Chapel/A6 (sorry, can't remember what number it is) is currently closed from the top of Winnets pass to the A6. If it's still closed in a fortnight, just carry on through Castleton and take a left at the top, to Sparrowpit/A623.

Definitely nice up there, didn't mention it as although it's spectacular on a bike, I'd find it a bit narrow on four wheels...
